Would you wake him up?

DS 19 months hasn't been feeling the best and seems to have a cold/chesty cough. He's usually up around 5.30am. It's now 8am and not a peep from him.... would you wake him up? Selfish me is worried about nap time being pushed back and tonight's bedtime being a nightmare!

Nope. He's poorly, his body is letting him sleep to try and get better
If you were ill and asleep and someone woke you up you'd not be happy

I've always had the rule that they sleep as long as they need when they're unwell. If mines very tired from a bug then often she'll sleep in, nap well and still to to bed! Hope little ones feeling better soon.

No! He’s sick.

No. I’d check he was breathing ‘normally’ and maybe put my hand on his forehead to check temperature, but I’d definitely leave him to sleep. His body knows what it needs.

Never wake them!

When you say not a peep, how confident are you that he’s just sleeping it off and not more unwell? I’d be in checking on him, and his temp/breathing rate etc.

I wouldn’t be too focused on your routine as that will likely go out of the window anyway if he’s unwell, but I would be trying to assess whether he needs to see a doc and being hard to wake would be one of the things I would consider.

No, my DD has been running a cold and slept almost 13 hours (usually 11 hours at the absolute max). I just let her sleep and she woke up looking a lot better. I did inwardly groan at the later bedtime but it’ll do him some good.

I wouldn't be worried about nap/bed time but I would probably be trying to rouse mine at 2.5 hours after their usual wake up because I would need to know they were ok and give meds if needed, clean nappy and a general assessment of their alertness.
