Reusable nappies advice

Does anyone use non bio liquid? We are just about to switch from disposable to trying reusable nappies. TotsBots says liquid detergent can affect the nappies while littlelamb says it’s a myth. I’m confused. Does anyone else use non bio liquid and it hasn’t affected the nappies?

If we have to we will buy powder for the nappy washes, I just haven’t been a fan of powder in the past. The nappies are currently being washed in the liquid detergent so hopefully one wash will be ok, I only saw the part about avoiding fabric conditioner beforehand and not liquid detergent as well.

I stopped using nappies about 6 months ago, but i always used powder as that was the advice. I think the nappy lady has information about it on her website.

Thanks I will take a look. I will switch to powder if it’s needed, I just wondered with the confusion if liquid was ok to use.

I've used both. In my own experience, the non bio liquid built up a bit on the nappies (you couldn't see or feel it) and made them less absorbent. The bio powder "ate" the dirt better, improved the smell, and didn't affect the absorbency. Even now that we're towards the end of toilet training, if DS has an accident and wees his pants I automatically reach for the bio (we keep both in the house as DD is sensitive and needs non bio but DS is still wetting himself a few times a week).

I found it was the difference between liquid and powder that affected the absorbency (powder is better in that regard). The bio was better at cleaning the wee/poo though.

Persil non bio is the best for cloth nappies. And get some napisan too.

Napisan depends what sort of cloth nappies OP is using. Napisan is best for terry triangles, but it's not recommended for most other cloth nappies (the ones with the nice patterns/colours) as it damages the water resistant outer layer.

Always powder for nappies.

Go to Clean Cloth Nappies (website or FB group) for the best washing advice.

So far we have a small collection of TotsBots. The easy fit and the bamboozles. I’m open to exploring others in the future though.

Thankyou, we will try powder then for the nappies going forward if the liquid is potentially going to make it less absorbent.
