2 year old birthday party, what time should I hold it at?

I have no idea, lol. Last year I had it from 3pm, purely because that was the time a friend had theirs. I was thinking 12pm and doing little sandwiches etc, the whole trditional party at home affair, but without the jelly and ice cream!

Toms mealtimes are by no means at conventional times! He has only been up an hour and refuses to eat his breakfast!

I'm just worried that the kids will all be tired and sleep through it!

dear god morning, morning,MORNING!!

11-1pm while they are normally awake for lunch

givesd parents a chance to get them up, fed, napped and into car then assured they'll get something for their lunch at party and then leave in time for afternoon nap

good luck!

tbh, i wouldn't bother but if you must, have it in the morning when they are still in relatively good form. 10.30ish and give them an early lunch. hopefully most of them will disappear for naps etc around 11.30 12. can you tell i love baby birthday parties?

sorry if that sounded frantic but been having same debate with self over dd's 2nd birthday in May and have worked out that is the time she is most pleasant!?!

Hmm, Tom is most pleasant between 2-4pm, lol. After lunch and before his afternoon nap. Then again, his day starts at 10am and ends at 10pmish. As I said, he/we are not conventional, but thats another issue!

I think I might ask a couple of the mums at toddlers, although they have been over for lunch at around 12pm and have left at 2pm, just after ITNG.

Actually, Tom is most pleasant when he's asleep! Especially at the moment as he is teething!

morning morning morning

SheherazadetheGoat · 04/03/2008 11:48

perfect. have it before he wakes up - infact time it so they will all be asleep and you can sit around eating cake and chatting in peace.

bexie does he have one or two naps? and what about the other children? ds of 20 months has a nap 10-12 but then has another one at about 4ish so for me i like things to be about 1:30ish so it gives me chance for him to wake up and get to wherever we need to be.

BexieID · 04/03/2008 12:23

He has one nap in the afternoon, between 4-6pm usually. Bearing in mind, he is up at 10am and goes to bed at 11pm. Certainly far from the average child!

One toddler group we goto is between 2-3:30pm and some of the kids turn up asleep ot they've just been woken up. The other is between 10-11:30am and we have come back to mine for lunch a few times.

Tom isn't a morning person. I think i'll ask some of the mums, but maybe i'll do it at 11:30, give them time to settle, do lunch and go from there.

you're never going to suit everyone so just remember its Tom's party and do what suits him best, the others won't mind if their lo's nap through it, means more cake and sandwiches for them!!

BexieID · 04/03/2008 13:51

Very true. It's Toms party, so we should do it to suit him. I think i'll probably do it for an 11:30 start. Gives people chance to get here and whatnot. I'm hoping we will have as nice an April as last year so we can have it outside.

best timed one I've been to so far ( boy turns 2 next week) was 10.30-12.30. all kids were awake and fairly mellow, played with toddler group toys, played pass teh parcel ( with help) & finished off with sandwiches and crisps and more cake than stricktly nessesary ( kids loved it).

SaveScrabulous · 05/03/2008 19:11

I think the majority of kids this age I know have a nap at lunchtime - maybe 12.30 for an hour or two. Personally I'd avoid anything that would end after 1pm as it would mean some of the little ones getting over tired if they are used to napping at that time.

nappyaddict · 06/03/2008 08:37

went to one yesterday which was 11-1 and ds was grumpy as hell for the first hour and slept through the second!!

BexieID · 06/03/2008 11:17

We went to a music class for 1-3 year olds once and that started at 1pm! I haven't been back as it's 8 miles away and Tom fell asleep in the car on the way to my in-laws and had no lunch!

I just texted one of the mums but will probably do it at 12pm. I know Tom will be awake, lol!

if tom's more pleasant in the afternoon i'd have it then - it's his birthday. 1-3 sounds fine to me.
