Can anyone suggest a decent stain remover. It's the 2nd week of school and my son is coming home from reception with new stains daily 🙈 he's a big fan of the mud kitchen and sauce on food is the enemy so they're mud/play stains rather than food.

I've used oxy powder in the wash, used it as a spot treatment pre wash n it just isn't shifting fully.

I was going to go out and buy something else today but thought I'd ask for some recommendations first!

The little effort the better if possible!!

I know that's why I was so frustrated we've never had this issue with his other clothes though.. although now I'm typing it out I'm wondering if its the type of material and my usual wash cycle/temperature might not be enough!

These are the things I feel like I'm supposed to just know now I'm a mum 😂

Bio powder. Non bio doesn’t cut it on stains. Something like persil or Ariel basic bio powder. And wash on. Cotton wash, not a quick wash. Hang outside after in sun

toamch · 16/09/2023 05:56

Ace they do a squirt bottle and another one where you had a cap and put it in the washer my daughter is a mucky bugger and had got everything out and it's not expensive only 2.50

ArrabellaAM · 16/09/2023 08:56

Brill thanks for the suggestions @Caspianberg @toamch I'll give them a try!

Fairy liquid is your friend! I'm currently sorting washing out. All school uniform is first counted (3DC!) then all marks are treated with fairy, whiteboard marker with hairspray, then bio powder in a 40⁰ wash.

AltheaVestr1t · 16/09/2023 09:13

If they are school polo shirts, I was able to wash mine on 90 degrees. DDs primary shirts were yellow. A long wash on 90 and a double dose of vanish was the only thing that sorted them out!

Gemstonebeach · 16/09/2023 09:14

Mud/sand can be very difficult to get out depending on the fabric! I treat with stain remover then soak mine before washing.

PurBal · 16/09/2023 09:16

Proper cycle as PP suggested, not quick wash. 60 degrees or more. Dry in sun for bleaching effect if possible.

ShipshapeShore · 16/09/2023 09:23

I know it's frustrating but I work in a school and don't bat an eyelid at stains - mostly it's obvious the clothes have been through the wash . It's the jumpers that have yogurt down them Monday and it's still there Friday that get me!

Candyflosscrochet · 16/09/2023 09:32

Hahaha! As I was hanging out the whites this morning I was just thinking 'I wonder if there's a thread on school top stains!!'.
2 weeks in and they are covered in yellow suncream stains around the neck.
Last term I tried soaking in oxy powder, directly spraying stains with stain remover, washing in bio and sun bleaching and nothing worked.
New tops and tried to get ahead of the game but nope, stained yellow. Even was scrubbing them with washing up liquid last night as I heard that might work!
I think as a pp said, the wash is not hot enough.
Might have to try a 60 wash just for those (after I've covered them in everything I have!).

Invisimamma · 16/09/2023 09:58

A scoop of stain remover in every wash, hang them in bright sunshine to dry should get the stains out. For really bad stains rub fairy liquid dish soap (has to be fairy!) into the stain before washing.

Wash as soon as you can, don't leave them in the laundry basket for days for stains to set. A cold rinse before a full wash can help too as hot water sets stains.

Get the Spanish cleaning stain remover its amazing and make sure the washing powder/liquid is bio.

ds is in year 1 and I’ve learnt from last year to put him in the old white polos from last year this Sept not the new ones I’ve just bought. This time of year they are bound to get dirty with new environment and equipment. Once the weather gets colder I found it easier as pen stains don’t show as much. Agree with washing straight away if poss but don’t stress about then looking perfect too much.

Elbow grease spray!

Blessedbethefruitz · 17/09/2023 21:54

Hairspray for whiteboard marker - how long before washing? Any kind works? We are at the end of week 1 with 3 blue polo shirts stained post-wash (with bio, Vanish, 40C as baby here too....)

NoodieRoodie · 17/09/2023 22:21

Any hairspray (I buy cheapest) and spray then throw straight in the wash. If you've already washed it then you're probably buggered but you'll know for next time! It is worth giving it a go every time before washing as it'll help slightly
