DS woke up yesterday morning with a cold. He’s so snotty it’s unreal 😔 I got about 1.5hours broken sleep last night.

Went down to bed at 7.30 tonight and has already been up 6 times because he keeps gagging in his sleep 😔

He completely refuses a pillow. I’ve propped up the head end of his bed. He’s got Vapor rub on.

I’ve got a 5am alarm again tomorrow for work - help us both get some sleep 😔 any advice welcome!

Is the window cracked open and have you tried Calpol?

SnapdragonToadflax · 14/09/2023 22:12

Calpol plug in. Brilliant things.

Humidifier with olbus oil drops

My son has suffered with his chest since he was new born, the moisture really helps.

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto Both done already unfortunately!

@SnapdragonToadflax 🤣 the plug in is on!! Usually that helps him quite a lot but doesn’t seem to be doing much this time!

@Jazsimone I actually don’t have one! But definitely something to consider getting for occasions like this.

You can just use a bowl of boiling water (once your little one is asleep) and add the drops

We use the diffuser with Olbas oil (make sure it's the kid's version)

But before bed we also use this to help get clear some of it which seems to help

Have you got a snot sucker?! My little one also woke up upset last night and exceptionally snotty. My husband is a whizz with it and it makes such a difference to sleep when they can breathe!

I also see this was yesterday - was it a better night for you? X

We got a snot sucker when DD was little as she would get hysterical if her nose was ever blocked. Just make sure you get one with a valve so you don't end up swallowing the snot! GrinEnvy

Thank you all. I did try the snot sucker last night and tonight but he wasn’t very amused with it 😅 he’s even worse tonight so I’m hoping this is the peak and he’ll get better from here 🤞🏼 x

Saline nasal spray is great! My 2yo isn't a fan but it really does work! Then bowls of boiling water by the cot/bed with eucalyptus oil or olbas oil in. Calpol and Vicks on bottoms of feet, chest and back! I find a combo of all of these really help xxx

All of the above are great. Our now 3 year old got RSV, then bronchiolitis, and then was sick one week a month for about a year. Horrendous. Ways to help were: warm bath each night, and I took her in the shower with me in the morning to steam out her lungs a bit. Make sure to use menthol bubble bath/bath salts for colds, really clear up the lungs. I also put vapour chest rub on after the bath. Humidifier in the bedroom right beside the bed with enough water to run all night. Cold/flu medication if you can get it in them (I know it is awful, mine would barely touch it). If you can get an electric snot sucker and get him to use it then that is amazing. One other thing that doesn't get mentioned much but makes a huge difference is to restrict dairy intake when they are sick. The hospital recommended no milk whenever my daughter had congestion. Good luck!

Our DD definitely wasn't impressed with the nasal aspirator but much less impressed with the blocked nose.
