Reflux/colic baby. Does it get better?

Please tell me theres light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to a colic/reflux baby. 😩 my little girl is 9 weeks old and it has literally been torture since she is about 3 weeks old. She cries ALOT .when she's not crying she is a pleasant little baby, just wish she was like that all the time. I have a 2 and a half year old also and he's tough work. He has gotten very bold since she has come along and I know it's probably just processing the new baby. There's is a serious strain on me and my partners relationship because I'm so overwhelmed and exhausted going around constantly. We are constantly arguing. He works long hours so I'm at home with them for alot of the day. I honestly have to get out of the house in the car cause it's the only place I get some peace (they both fall asleep) he goes to pre school 2 days a week so that's a small break but I'm still at home with a crying baby 😩 please tell me it gets better cause I'm just really not enjoying my maternity leave at the moment . 🥺 sorry just a bit of a rant also.

Your doing amazing!

my boy is 7 months and oh god I remember those days. He was never happy, crying all the time, my partner works away so it was literally me all day and night. I don’t know how you do it looking after a toddler too. I spent all my time researching when does it get better etc. I’d say by 3 months for me it got better, then a big improvement 5 months . He still cries a bit but nowhere like then. You’re coming through towards the end. Stay strong!!!

It's so hard but temporary - it does come to an end! I quit dairy and that helped with my DS, you could go to the GP for some advice if that would help? Otherwise as pp said around 12 weeks you'll hopefully see some improvement - hang in there, you're doing brilliantly handling two young children!

Hey @Mummabear10032021 - same boat! 9 week old that never stops crying and has what I think is reflux. Gaining weight but milk intake is low and just generally unsettled. Have you tried meds? My first was like this and she did get better but even knowing that I am struggling. It is so so tough, does she like to be held? Does it soothe?

@testy1997 yes she does like to be held actually. If one more person says it's because she's "spoiled" 🙄 i haven't tried meds yet. Bringing her to the gp now today

Yes, it gets better!! We've just got through the other side. Had 2 months of misery, crying or screaming basically all the time from 6 weeks to 17.5 weeks, when overnight she became a completely different baby

I sympathise, it was incredibly tough, I was miserable, she hated life. She was in a sling most the day, I was on my feet 80% of my waking hours., feet and legs where in bits.

She still has bad reflux. But overnight she switched from being happy 10% of her waking hours, miserable the rest. To being a mostly very happy little cute baby, who is all of a sudden lovely to be around!!

Just to say, we had a little improvement before this at 13 weeks, bit it was 17.5 weeks that gave us a new baby.

Also have her sister who's 16 months older.

Infant gaviscon was a life saver for us! Was like a different baby the next day. She's 11 weeks now and don't get me wrong she sometimes has an off day, but on the whole sooo much better. Worth a try

@bambier we just got it yesterday from the Dr's. What way did you administer it for your baby? He told us one whole sachet in every second bottle.?

We were told we could put one sachet in every bottle she has! (As long as over 4oz), so we did that for a bit, and then have slowly cut it down. She now only has two bottles a day with it in and it seems to keep it at bay

I'm sorry it's so so tricky!

My almost 3 year old suffered terribly with reflux. She didn't have an allergy or anything but as soon as she could stand at 9 months, it dramatically decreased (she often needed a change of clothes 10x per day from covering them) and then by 11 months it had disappeared.

I know that's a really long time but the first year goes by in a flash.

I eventually accepted that I just needed to pack lots of outfit changes for her and me on trips out, lots of muslins and bibs too. It was hard going because none of my mummy friends had a sicky baby and they all felt sorry for me! Hang in there. Go prepared everywhere! Keeping her upright for 20 odd minutes made no difference whether I did it that long or 5 minutes so don't torture yourself there either.
