Have been on asking this before but am still v.confused. My 10 mth olds symptoms include irritability, poor sleep, excessive gas, occasional constipation, general stomach upset. Have been to see all sorts of people and originally given meds for reflux (did appear more reflux like at beginning) Then tried about 5 weeks of dairy free for me (am bf) and saw no dramatic difference, although she did have a fall during this time which unsettled her. When last saw paediatrician he more or less ruled it out if didnt see dramatic difference of dairy free. However, gave normal formula a few days last week as am back at work and she seemed worse at night again (although is pretty up and down generally anyway) She wont touch any dairy free formulas so am a bit stuck!!!!!!!! Am fed up wondering if it is to do with dairy. What are your experiences?

My DS2 has an intolerence to dairy but it is skin related (ezcema) rather than digestive problems. When we stopped giving him dairy we saw a drastic improvement within about 2 weeks.

My DD (3 months) has ezcema, blood in her poo and pain on pooing, vomitting, excessive gas and cries like crazy when feeding.

We've been told it takes around 10 days for dairy to leave the system, so i guess you should have seen a change if you went dairy free for 5 weeks. Does your DD tolerate soya, or could that also be the problem?

ds is dairy intolerant. we did not realise until he was 12 months and we put him on cows milk and he was throwing up white chunks. then it all made sense!!!

he had constant runny nappies and was always whingy and irritable, not good at sleeping through night, for the first six months he was often sick.

now we have him on soya and he is like a different child. we ran out of soya the other night so his drink before bed was cows milk and we really paid for it. up three times in the night just moaning and horrible horrible nappies again.

dd is allergic to dairy - it causes a rapid scarlet rash across mouth and face with raised lumps, swollen lips and some difficulty breathing. I think that is a fairly typical allergic reaction. I don't know much about intolerance but I understand it is more likely to involve stomach problems of the sort you describbe. However, I think there could be plenty of other causes, too - didn't the paediatrician have any useful advice on this?

My dd was prescribed Neocate and took to it very quickly. The 'original' flavour is completely vile, but they also do a banana-vanilla flavour - like Nesquik - which she loved. I understand a lot of parents don't want to try it because it gets the baby hooked onto a sweet drink, but I felt it was well worth it to get some nutrients down my dd and get her weight up.
