Hi do I have a 5 week old. Now I know heโ€™s extremely young and am aware of the 4th trimester and this isnโ€™t a post about getting him to sleep through.

Im desperate for advice. He will wake for his 3/4am bottle then will not settle after. He will grunt and squirm like absolute crazy! We are thinking maybe he needs to poo but canโ€™t? We are thinking itโ€™s wind have tried Colief, infacol and gripe water all to no avail. He is bottle fed and does not seem to have many wind issues through the day or for his other bottles.

he will settle when picked up and quickly go bk to sleep but if put bk in the next to me begins squirming. For the last 4 nights I have had to sit up with him on my chest in order for him to go bk to sleep peacefully. Obv this is not practical long term and Iโ€™m exhausted ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

does anyone have any advice? Is this normal Iโ€™m wondering more than anything? can ride it out if I know it something that could potentially resolve.

should I take him the GP although heโ€™s drinking fine and plenty of wet nappies and pooped anything between 1-3 times a day on average.

Both my babies did this. Every morning around 4am loads of grunting and fidgeting, was like living in a zoo! But it did naturally stop after a few weeks, thankfully!

I think all babies do this. It's just a phase. It'll be over in a few weeks. Could be a mix of digestion and active sleep. Just remember by the time the fourth trimester is over everything will be different. Enjoy him snuggling in your chest for now

Also make sure you are burping him really well. It can be tempting to lie them down quickly at night.

Fab thank you! My first never did so wasnโ€™t sure if we should be worried or not! Glad it all sounds normal and will just ride it out!

Make sure you know the difference between awake and active sleep. Babies are very noisy sleepers, and a lot of time parents confuse active sleep for them being awake and pick them up too early

@Youcancallmeirrelevant yes meant to add heโ€™s not awake when heโ€™s doing it his eyes are firmly closed so I do just leave him but heโ€™ll go for about 2+ hours doing it sometimes and will eventually wake up and thatโ€™s when Iโ€™m picking him up and he settles. Joys of newborns ๐Ÿ˜…
