Any experience of movicol and laxiberal

Hi my dd is 5 years old and has never got the hang of toilet training. We have, I think, tried everything. Sticker charts, treats, no treats, visits to GP, visits to health visitors. A paediatrician (can't spell that word!) diagnosed chronic constipation and prescribed movicol and laxoberal. These have produced lots of poos and wees but still all in knickers - never in the loo. Now my daughter's school are getting bothered by the situation, which I can sort of understand because its not very hygenic and I think some of the other girls in the class have started noticing that my dd wiffs a bit! Really not sure what to do next - I know the problem is a long term one and that it will take some time to resolve but I can't really see an end in sight. This has been going on for almost 2 and a half years now. Anyone had any similar experiences and any tips as to how to cope?

DD was like this when she first strated on her medication. It took about a month of pooing her pants before she started being able to get to the toilet in time.

Her bowels are clearing out of all the crap in their built up over quite a long time so it is bound to take a while. Poor her and you I do sympathise as I remember it so well.

Luckily for us her school were great about it and used to clean her up and change her for me everyday (I used to send in clothes for this). I too was worried about her being teased by her peers and in the end her teacher and I agreed that she would wear discrete nappy pants till she had pooed herself. The TA would then clean her up and change her into some normal pants and clean clothes as needed.

She has now been on the Movicol for 2 years and it is soooooo much better. Worth persisting but not pleasant for her, you or the school. Good luck.
