What age would you leave a child in a car for 3 minutes?

After dropping DS at pre-school was accosted my a parent who told me they were going to report me to the police for leaving my 6 year old child for 3 minutes in a car. I left DC1 in the car whilst I dropped DC2 to pre-school (DC1 school doesn’t have a pre-school). It was not hot this morning and the car was locked. School is on a quiet residential street not a busy main road. I was parked maybe 20/30ft from the school gates. Quickly walked DC2 to the pre-school entrance and handed him over with no chit chat. When I got back DC1 was still sat happily in the car and asked me why the lady was staring at her.

Sounds fine to me…

Never on a sunny day.

8 in an unlocked car with the keys removed as I want her to be able to get out if something happened to me or it got hot.

No judgement from me on leaving a 6 year old in a locked car for 3 minutes in a busy area on a cloudy day. The chances of anything going wrong are tiny! This was standard when I was kid. Tell the woman to go away and stop wasting police time.

Oh yes I was reported to the petrol station’s security by a lovely lady few years back, as my then toddler was crying

I put it on MN actually and got similar response to you

it was only 2 mins and I could see him the whole 2 mins 😂

those lovely bystanders who are so much better at parenting than us 😂

I'd let the Karen report you and let her have the police / social services laugh in her face when they explain that nipping out for a few moments leaving a 6 year old is totally fine and in no way a crime.
In Ireland it actually is a crime- a gardai once stopped a dad at the school from walking to the cash machine, right next to the car to get money out. The dad pointed out where he was getting the money from and he said he couldn’t leave his child unattended in the car, that it was against the law
