Weaning concerns-should I be worried

DD is 6 months almost 7 months, and we've been trying to wean her for a month now and she's still not swallowing any foods, we've tried baby rice and porridge, various purees even some baby led weaning with bananas and carrots, she'll put things up to her mouth but nothing gets past her tongue she'll push everything back out. Starting to get worried, my first took to food straight away so not sure what to do. She's EBF and refuses a bottle and dummy while my first took a bottle and dummy so not sure if this makes a difference? Anyone been in a similar situation?

No advice OP but watching this! My DC is the same age and though she loves messing about with food, not much is going down. She'll have some bread spread with pureed veg, or suck on a peach or plum, but it's nowhere near what her siblings had at this age.

Hi OP
all babies are different
Is she showing readiness signs?

try sharing food with baby in your lap

we actually started with the rice wafers which helped him understand food in mouth = food into tummy.
then started on all the veggies but they had to be seasoned!

spent months with him in my arms as I ate so he started off great in the weaning journey.

Good luck and don’t stress x this weather hasn’t helped either! Less likely to want to eat when it’s been so hot

Every baby is different. I wouldn't worry. And not having a dummy and refusing bottle won't make a difference. Just keep offering food :)

Oh to add, mines EBF won’t take a bottle or dummy either.

My sons ebf and takes bottles. I gave him one right at the beginning.

My DD was EBF and also refused a dummy/bottle. We struggled to initiate weaning too and she used to vomit quite a lot as she had a very sensitive gag reflex. We just continued to offer her small amounts of different purees each day, alongside baby wafers/melty sticks which she would suck on. Most days she wouldn't have anything, but it was at least exposing her to different colours, textures and tastes.

It took a little longer than other babies her age, but we eventually got there over a few months. Just go slowly and keep sticking with it, all babies are so different :)

Yes she'll sometimes gag and be sick even with just putting her fingers in her mouth, we've given her an Ella's kitchen puff and so far it's the most successful thing but even at that very little was eaten. When did your DD start to eat food? Stressing as I'm back to work soon and don't think the daycare will have this patience

It sounds like maybe she's still got the tongue-thrush reflex, so her tongue automatically pushes everything out of her mouth. I'd probably give it a few more weeks before worrying too much, she might just be a little later than average to lose the reflex. She can still be exploring different tastes and textures, even if she's not swallowing things yet.

My baby is 6 months, ebf and refuses a dummy and bottle too. We have had some success in getting him to sip small amounts of expressed breast milk in a Tum Tum weighted straw cup (sometimes he swallows it, sometimes he spits it back out again).

We are seeing the same with weaning though, we’ve started on purées and most seems to be spat back out again. Having said that, after he had broccoli the second time his poo was full of it, so he must’ve eaten more than we thought. I’ve been adding breast milk to purées too so make the taste a bit more familiar. We’re just sticking with it though and trying not to put any pressure on it 🤞🏼

Thanks, would you recommend that cup, we've tried a few, she seemed to like just a simple sippy cup from Tommy tippe for some water but not milk yet, would love to get her taking a cup of milk especially with me going to work soon. I've bought a few other cups, one with a straw, but she can't seem to manage it.
I tried some cooked fingers of carrot, she holds them, puts them in her mouth, bites and spits them out. Anything that makes it past her tongue makes her gag and she ended up spewing up a bit of milk, so stressful to watch let alone how she must be feeling, don't want to give her some type of aversion

Yes I would definitely recommend the cup! He goes a bit mad for it and grabs for it when we take it away from home, he bites the straw a bit which I think soothes his gums, but then he will suck a lot! I was really worried that we wouldn’t get him to take anything, but slowly persevering with this has really helped l. We’ve played around with temperature a bit, when the weather was warm this week he seemed ti really enjoy cold breast milk from the fridge. Today he preferred freshly expressed so a bit warmer, but I would definitely recommend it!

I completely understand that, I’m worried to make it feel forced too. The other thing he swallowed was carrot purée, but again I mixed it with a lot of breast milk, so it was very runny but definitely trying to go for a variety of flavours in the mouth at this point even if he doesn’t swallow it really. The gagging is quite scary though I wasn’t prepared for that
