Sedatives to help babies sleep. Any experiences or thoughts?

Hi, have been quiet for a while cos have had problems accessing internet. However, many of you will have been familiar with my rants and moans about DD2 who is now 10 mths (I know I cant believe it!!!!) Has been unsettled from start, has had reflux meds, dairy free, been hospitalised, been to all sorts of alternative practitioners, eg.osteopaths, chiropractors, baby massage, all to no avail. Is still quiet agitated in day and not sleeping in night (on average up about 3 or 4 times, but sometimes v.difficult to get back down), Anyway, the point which I'm getting to, is that having not made much progress on tummy troubles, consultant paediatrician shocked us by prescribing a mild sedative which he said sometimes works with these 'colicky babies' when nothing else works. Am a bit anxious about it as I dont know too much about it and understand they are v.rarely prescribed for babies now(I was given a sedative as a baby and according to my mum slept through and was fine) However, main problem is it doesnt really get to root of problem, but doc.seems to think might just break the pattern. Cant meet anyone who has been given them (except me as a baby and that was the seventies). What do you think? Have you had any experiences?

Should say that we have tried a few other methods of getting her to sleep, eg. diluted version of CC without any success. The medication is trichoflos or something but please let me know if you have any experience of any meds!!!!!

My DS2 didn't sleep until he was 2! He was up 3 or 4 times a night and the only way we could get him back to sleep was to rock him in our arms - stood up! Not good He would scream a lot during the day as well. It's a nightmare isn't it!
Is your DD colicky? Did the meds work?
I didn't try this till much later, but we now regularly see a homeopath and he is a different child!! I would be worried like you about giving a sedative (although I know lots of people who have). I would definately try homeopathy first. Don't be put off by the other alternative therapies you have tried.
Keep your chin up
