How to help two year old with bike or scooter?

Our two year old loves to sit, eat and chat, she's high centiles for weight and we try and encourage her to be active, taking her to parks, gym etc.

We've bought her a balance bike and micro scooter, with both she has been really excited and wanted to take them out but after trying and not getting the knack she's lost interest in trying.

Does anyone have any tips for helping her get the knack of either please?

We took the balance bike out with us constantly when DS1 was 2 and had it slung on the pram. He only ever wanted short attempts at the beginning where he would stand and walk with it rather than sit on the saddle. This persisted for months before he cracked it (he's not a particularly physically adept child!) Once he got it it was great, but the little and often was definitely the right approach for him. Have you taken her on a bike? Having a bike "like mummy" was a big draw for him.

Has she had anything easier than a scooter or balance bike? A scuttlebug?

Thanks, maybe we need to try that. I wish we'd bought less cumbersome versions to carry now! Scuttlebug was similar, eventually she got it at nursery I think, we've never really taken it out and about only in the house. Maybe we should take that out, at least it's easier to carry.

She loves being pulled in a trailer behind an adult bike. Preferably eating as she goes!

A micro scooter weighs very little and is really easy to sling under or ver the handlebars of a buggy. Take it with you wherever you go and encourage short bursts of practice, once they get the hang of micro scooters they're fab and very easy to push and steer. Maybe give points to scoot between before getting back in the buggy as short goals.

Thanks, that video's really helpful, it's really just little bit by little bit isn't it. I need to get the saddle height right to get her feet flat. I'll have to experiment with fitting a scooter on the buggy.

It's pretty normal they don't want to do anything for long at this age, our daughter is the same with her scooter. Do you encourage walking? Ours can walk for 45 mins ish now having encouraged++. Sounds like you're doing the right thing ensuring things you're doing are 'active'. Are you both active people? Role modelling is really important for the long term. Also doing plenty of play dates etc as they will tend to be more active for longer when around others?
