dd is 2.8yrs i have started potty training before but due to alot of problems this year didn't have time to concentrate on it fully. Anyway i have started this morning. She can tell me she has had a poo and is wet in her nappy and always ask's for it to be changed, she has had knickers on since this morning and has just wet herself. I know its the first time but do you think she is ready and i just need to wait it out and support her. She starts pre-school end of the month so really would like her trained.

Keep going for at least a week - she will wet herself quite often at first. Just keep reminding her where to go.

thanks for the advice, my mum keeps saying oh well when you and your sister was training you never had any accidents dd is my first so had to know what to expect.

I wait until they tell you they need a wee, not that they have already done one.

That's what we did with DD1 and she had very few accidents.

pandagirl03 · 03/03/2008 11:56

ok now we are on 2nd accident and she hasn't said a word to me, just noticed her knickers were wet so had to look for puddle. am i doing something wrong or is this normal???

my eldest was 3 when i decided to try on the first day he wet 7 times and never told me, the next day 3 times and came to me when wet and just looked at me. On day three he was dry and only had a handful of accidents from them - he didn't want to train but once he realised i meant it, he gave in next one was nearly four again he didn't want to and went through similar pattern except did take longer and even now aged 6 will have odd accident. next one is dd who 4 wks ago at 20 months told me one morning wee and went to to bathroom so i lifted her up and put her on and this hapenned for rest of day so got the potty in and she is clean and dry at home but only if she has no knickers on as she cannot get hang of pulling them down - when out she tells me but only a minute before she goes then cries until changed.
sorry about typing just feeding ds3 and wondering what he will be like, but as only 3 months at least i have a couple of years before i find out.

Kids will be ready when they want ds (12) was ok we used to tell him to pee up a tree!! DD was good to. Now onto dd2 just telling me dirty nappy sp wait till summer to go nappy free. Its always nicer when the weather is sunny. TRy not to get upset about the puddles everwhere. they will dry.

colditz · 03/03/2008 13:21

Your mum is suffering what is known as "Middle aged selective child raising memories"

My mother gets those too

The says things like "Of course, you were dry day and night by 18 months"

So how come I can remember fiddling in my night nappy? I know I wasn't.

She also recalls my brother and sister being the very best of friends always - which is odd, because I distinctly recall the blood shed when they used to fight!

colditz · 03/03/2008 13:22

It's normal for kids to wet themselves when they are first being trained. If she is still doing it after, say, a week, she's not ready.

If she gets any wee in the potty or toilet, go nuts, dish out chocolate, have a party, phone everyone you know!

pandagirl03 · 03/03/2008 15:51

Thanks for all the advice, what happens when i need to pop out this week, do i put on a pull up or do i take her out with knickers on and if she has a accident so be it??

Take her out with knickers and take a potty with you.

Don't panic. She will wet herself, you are not doing it wrong, and neither is she, it just takes time, that's all.

pandagirl03 · 05/03/2008 23:09

well day 3, we have had 2 accidents, lots of wee's in the potty and a poo on the toilet. So looks like its moving in the right direction. well hope it is
