Bedroom to hot for baby!

Hi. My bedroom is currently sitting at 27 degrees!

Baby (8 months) is in his cot with only a nappy and vest but he is sticky sweaty.

Should I take his vest of him and leave him in his nappy? I don't want him to get cold overnight but I don't want him to overheat either.

Any advice?

If it’s a short sleeve vest I’d leave it on.

In the nicest possible way, calm down it's not even that hot. Put him in a nappy or vest. Put a fan on. Open the windows. Leave him in his nappy or vest and put a light weight sleeping bag on if he wakes up cold. If he doesn't wake up he's fine.

My 8 month old is in a vest. It’s same temperature in my bedroom and I just checked him and he feels warm but not hot.

WTAF?!

Before we had air con I went along with what the Gro Egg guide suggested at the time. When it went red at 25 degrees, I did vest off, just a nappy. Do you have a fan? If so can you position it in front of an open window to draw in the cooler air from outside? Poor baby, it's not nice feeling too hot.

@Whentwobecomesthree It is actually 24 degrees outside in London, even now at gone 9:30. The house is even hotter @ around 26/27. 🥵

Roses121 · 07/09/2023 21:35

Op, I’d take vest off if baby is sweaty. If they wake up cold you can always put it back on.

momlife3 · 07/09/2023 21:36

@SisterMichaelsHabit I do have a fan but I used it last night when the room was sitting at 28 and it just blew hot air around.

These houses are built to hold heat which is great in the winter but no so much these hot nights.

I'm gonna sound pathetic here but I'm petrified to leave the window open after and encounter with a couple of massive wanna be tarantulas the other morning 🤣

I had a newborn in Cyprus in September. The day we came home from hospital she got prickly heat which is very uncomfortable so I learned quickly how to get a room cool.

Keep windows covered all day.
Open window in several rooms for through draft.
Don't allow the room to heat up otherwise you're just moving hot air around.
Start fans early and keep them on. Hot air doesn't build up then.
Leave a vest on to absorb sweat or baby will cool too quickly and be cold.
Blood temperature bath. Hotter or cooler makes your body work hard to return to blood temperature.
Move air around baby but don't put fan directly onto them. Dust can be breathed in or it can make mouths and eyes dry.
Babies sleep at the equator. Don't stress too much.
