Does your toddler want carrying while walking etc

20mo DS started walking confidently at 15mo I’d say?

Family days out etc I mainly used the buggy as I’m anxious and was worried about him running or falling (he took some time with balance) I’m quite anxious as a parent

So now I’m trying more walking out of buggy, sometime with reins sometimes without.

the other day he walked to nursery 0.5 miles-0.6 away I’d say! And the next day only went in the buggy for the last 2 minutes as we needed to get there for me to get back for work (and he wa stopping to watch things a b it more which is fine we’d just left later) and this was fine. His dad was with us so it was us 3 walking

Today without him he wanted carrying after a little while so I don’t know if it was more fun with his dad

i am just asking is it normal to want carrying ? Should he be able to do a whole day out at this age (for example) without being picked up or carried?

I will note this morning he did spend 5 minutes straight running back and forth our living and dining room

He's not even 2 yet bless him, he's still very little. Nothing wrong with a mix of buggy/walking.

I wouldn't say a whole day walking is 'normal' for a two year old - they tire very quickly and will want carrying if they've overdone themselves.

We used a buggy until around 3.5yrs, it wasn't always used but it's there if they get tired.

I didn't ditch the buggy until over 3yo. They don't have any road sense, aside from getting tired. I wanted some way to contain them.

My daughter was adamant that she'd walk everywhere when she first got the hang of it. We sold her pram and now have a much lighter buggy that I could push one handed. Fast forward a few months and she's so confident at walking she's now happier being pushed or carried 😂

Okay thanks I’m being silly worrying that I’ve made him not want to walk far as I was so nervous and always had him in!!

I now have the reins for shops and days out, I use buggy coming home from nursery because he’s been there all day so will be tired

I don’t know why I seen someone post (stupid me comparing) their day at CBeebies land and our kids are the same age and I thought wow she looks like she was walking all day - but again they won’t include buggy pics I assume

They definitely can't go all day at that age. That is far too much. They will want to be carried.

I used to have mine on the reins when out and about at that age. I'd also have the buggy with us and they just got put in that when they started wailing. They'd maybe complain for a bit, but I ignored that and it usually wasn't long before they were asleep.

You probably wouldn’t take photos of a buggy. Also, you’ll notice this more as they get older but there tends to be endless energy for attractions and playgrounds but walking 5 minutes if it’s somewhere boring is far too much and is likely to result in whinging, even if they’re 6 (speaking from experience 🤣).

My 2YO still spends a lot of time in the stroller. He has very limited road sense, won’t tolerate reins and sometimes we just don’t have time for the dawdle. Same as every other child I know of his age. I suspect a lot of (not all of course but probably most) of the ‘haven’t used a pram since they were 18 months’ type actually don’t do that much walking themselves and drive a lot.

My children definitely used buggies for shopping, long walks and days out until they were 4 . So much easier and you know where they are !
Just back from Mallorca with 3.5 grandchild and we used the buggy a lot.
