Water bottle size reception

I’m over worrying as I’m nervous about my child starting tommorow but can anyone tell me if 500ml water bottle is too big for 4 year old reception child ? I thought it would be better so they don’t have to refill in the day and it keeps liquid cold and the other 350ml seems too small?

If it's a metal double walled one to keep drinks cool 500ml might be a bit heavy when full?

At my dc primary they had a water bottle provided by school (filled by teacher/TA in reception if needed) and home one was for lunch time only. Dc both had Camelbak Kids ones which were 350ml and plenty big enough.

I think the ones school provided were 500ml btw but we're light plastic ones.

Too big!!

250/300, easy to carry and they can fill up

My son had a 500ml one in reception - it was a sistema one with a twist cap and it was fine. Lots of his friends had the same size. Like you said, it saves them refilling so often. When he first started school he was also very shy and a bit scared to ask about refilling, so it also avoided a situation where he'd run out and was too scared to ask if he could refill it!

350ml is fine. You don’t want it to be so big and heavy when full that it’s awkward for them to carry. It doesn’t even get drunk (maybe half on average) unless they have a sports club after school.

In my experience they come home virtually untouched every day - refilling them has never been something that's come up!

In our school they get placed in a rack they can help themselves from if they want to but they tend to just drink the milk at snack time and the water on the tables at lunchtime most of the time instead.

Most important thing is that he is able to open it easily by himself and recognise it as his if there are other similar ones.

Dd had a Contingo flip top bottle in reception. It’s 420ml which is a decent amount, but the bottle itself isn’t huge and it’s super easy for them to open/close.

DD has a metal 350ml one and I think that's enough for the school day. They get a separate drink with their lunch. And bigger would be a bit awkward/heavy for little ones I think.
