It’s really, really getting to me. What the fuck is wrong with her? She’s 7 weeks.

Wind - do the cycling motions with her legs

And try gripé water - can work a dream

Bored - long walks especially before bed

Milk intolerance - not sure how your feeding but if bottle try and change it

Hungry
Tired
Overstimulated
Uncomfortable/in pain/unwell
Bored (although I’d put this a long way down and unlikely with a 7 week old)

Thats my checklist when my same age DC2 seems to do nothing but cry (like today). The ‘5 S’ approach can work quite well, as can just chucking them in the sling or pram and getting outside. Or feeding/bouncing on a yoga ball in a dark room with white noise. Or stripping them down and putting them in the bath.

Sometimes though it is literally ‘because babies be babies’. 7 weeks is peak fussiness for all of them due to so much growth and development. Some days with DC1 at that age he’d literally cry all day and nothing would soothe him. Then you drink wine, eat junk, put headphones in and repeat ‘this too shall pass’

If other symptoms obv speak to your GP about medical conditions.

Definitely not bored, baby is 7 weeks ffs. OP you have my sympathies it's so hard at that age to know what's wrong. Could be sore tummy, wind, maybe the milk isn't agreeing with them? I found switching to comfort or anti reflux milk really helped mine at that age.

Christ alive i used the wrong word and said 'bored', you know exactly what I meant

I had one of them too op. It's hard when they're like that. The sling was a godsend.

@quietnightmare I literally have no idea what you meant sorry

Tiredmummy101 · 03/09/2023 02:19

Could be reflux? Does your little one spit up a lot, do they bring their legs up to their stomach, are they worse when lying down?

Speak to your GP, she might need to try some infant gaviscon or some milk thickener.

Could just be how the baby is. One of mine cried constantly for the first few months and literally only had a couple of hours sleep each day!! I thought I was going to die from sleep deprivation/exhaustion. nothing wrong with him just a little bugger haha

My baby is a few months old and I found when she cried the most at that age it was due to overstimulation. I took her to drakened room with white noise and dummy to calm her down and usually worked.

My 4th had this, about 6 weeks to about 16 weeks. Crying for 5-7 hours a day on and off, worse before bedtime, nothing seemed to work, was classed as colic. Was only taken seriously as I had 3 others, and I knew the difference. What didn't work - infacol gripe water, and the likes, winding techniques etc. What worked (to a degree) - white noise, swing thing, standing with him in arms and rocking from side to side (although not sustainable), dummy (not normal one, one for fussy babies). Trying to go to sleep the second he did (obv with 3 older so this wasn't always possible). I would have tried swaddling had I known about it at the time. People are quick to say it is about their digestive system, and sometimes maybe it is, so worth a try. He was born 3 weeks early, and I think it more about their nervous system not being properly there personally. It shreds your nerves. I used to know as soon as I got up what sort of day we were going to have. Best of luck and hugs. x

This was my baby, too. It was rough going, and people told me 'babies just cry, it's what they do!' Not like this, they didn't.

It was heartbreaking. Turns out she was constipated and she had/has silent reflux. She doesn't often spew, just swallows it back down, but it's very uncomfortable.

motherofbantams · 03/09/2023 03:59

For reflux, doc can prescribe omeprazole. Different baby overnight for us. Good Luck xx
