Naps / sleep

I’m hoping I can get some different perspectives on here! My little one is 5 months old. He goes to bed anywhere between 6.30 & 7.30pm. I give him what I call a dream feed at 10pm. He wakes at 3am then at 7.30am
he naps one early morning, one around lunch and one late afternoon with a two hour wake window before bed.
however! That dream feed has no longer become dream as he now wakes at that time. The dream feed is also no longer doing what I want it to which is a full night of no wake ups.
im conscious this is the age where all the sleep patterns set in so I don’t want to scupper myself!
any thoughts on the dream feed? What can I do to make him last the night?

Sounds like you've got a great routine for a baby that young! What is it you want? A full night of no wake ups might be a while away yet but does your partner share the load?

Hi op that all sounds good to me my 8 month old has just dropped his early morning nap... and he still wakes to feed in the night but I have found the more food he takes in the day the less feeds he needs at night what time is little ones naps and how long is the naps

Some baby's don't sleep all night and some do x

At 5 months they are extra hungry as getting ready for food but not quite ready yet. Also teeth kicking in meaning they don’t sleep so well.

Best thing you can do is avoid feeding/rocking to sleep, if possible, other than that, not a lot you can do tbh. You’re really getting pretty good sleep tbh.

Agree, your baby has an excellent sleep pattern and has got to this point in a short time frame. I would hoped that with another couple of months the nights will be even better. You could get make things worse by micromanaging.

Think I’m after the impossible and wanting a no wake up night! Yep we do share 😀

His naps are around 30 mins to as long as 2 hours. Around 10am, 1pm and 3/4pm

Thanks everyone this has been really helpful! I think I’m just wondering whether I should drop the 10pm dream feed

I think my main worry is I return to work in January. I’m going to struggle if he continues a 4am wake up and I then need to be up at 6am. Is there anyway to trick him into waking at 5.30? 😂

That's still a long way away OP. By then he will be eating and most likely be sleeping through. But then teething starts and that's another journey. You can't control these things unfortunately, don't expect him to be fully sleeping through. Just get yourself to bed earlier 😂

Is there a reason you do a dream feed? I never wake mine for a feed. I only feed him if he wakes. It could be disturbing his sleep and actually having the opposite effect to what you want.

P.s I am back at work. DS doesn't sleep through. You'll manage and will be fine!

The dream feed I think it’s something I started early on and it gave me a long stretch and eventually he didn’t wake till 5.30am. However, it’s not delivering anymore. But he does totally guzzle the whole bottle at the dream feed so I guess I’m apprehensive to let it go if it makes the night worse?

that’s good to know about returning to work!

I used to do one early on to but at 5 months he will wake and definitely make it known if he's hungry. I'm sure I stopped mine at about 3 months. I know with mine if his beginning stretch of sleep is disturbed he has a really bad night!
Good luck!

Thank you - I guess only one way to find out!
