10 month old learnt to stand in cot now refuses sleep

What do we do when this happens? My daughter at every nap time and bed time now will put herself up on the sides of the cot to stand and takes 10 times longer to go sleep with repeatedly laying her back down, but then sometimes she'll get really really upset. Is it okay to let her do it for as long as she likes? I worry she'll get overtired doing this but then think maybe she'll just run out of energy eventually? I don't know. Any advice appreciated xx

I don't have advice unfortunately, but solidarity. As soon as my son could stand, that was it, naps and bedtime were on his terms. The advice we were given was to only lay him back down twice (otherwise it becomes a game) and after that just pat the bed, but it didn't work for us.
It got easier when we swapped down to 1 nap for us, but I suspect 10 months is too early for that, though my other half reckons we should have tried earlier.
I hope someone has better advice for you!

Are you in room? If not she’ll just get bored eventually if she gets no attention. It’s just a stage
wait till they start climbing out 😱😱
I have a very misshapen toe some 39 years later, due to waking up in middle of night because of the thump of eldest dc landing after climbing out. I jumped out of bed, my leg must of been asleep and it gave way, I collapsed. Husband was sound asleep with both of us thumping around and me swearing under my breath (ds in other room I will add). I had to shout to wake him, he sorted ds, gave me no sympathy at all, and was sleepily be,used at all the fuss. Until the morning when my foot was bruised and swollen. Sodding toe has been circled and bent ever since as a reminder that kids will always do precisely what they want no matter how risky, stupid or how well you think you’ve protected them 🤣🤣🤣🙄🤦‍♀️

This is just a phase, but a very annoying one! My eldest was the same at this age, she had been brilliant for going down up to this point, once she had her dummy she always just went straight to sleep. I tried absolutely everything I could think of but eventually I resorted to leaving her to cry it out. I am not a fan of CIO in other circumstances but after a couple of very distressing bedtimes (for me as much as her) she just lay down and went to sleep as she always had.

Imo the standing is a coincidence, she needs to drop a nap

It will pass if you give it bare minimum attention. So long as they can get themselves back to lying down unassisted then just let them crack on. After a few days they'll lay down quicker themselves it's just novelty

Nope. The overwhelming majority of babies shouldn’t be dropping a nap at this age. It leads to them being overtired because they’re not ready.

How long has this been going on? Both mine did this for about a week because they were practising a new trick, but soon got bored of it and went back to normal. If it’s a recent thing, hopefully it’ll be the same for you!

Surely that depends how many they're having in the first place? Dd went from three to two before that age. Op's dc might still be on three

Do not drop the nap! Our oldest went through this (our 12 month old didn't as he learned how to get down as soon as he learned to stand). I spent two solid days/nights staying in their room when it was sleep time and patted the bed, and showed them how to sit down. Eventually I gave up, left the room and baby fell asleep standing up and then just eventually learned to sit down on their own/the standing stopped being new and exciting. It is a phase and you will get through it.
