Should I wake him?

DS is 3

Hasn't napped during the day now for about 4/5 months unless he's had a super busy day and falls asleep in the car etc

He got up at 6am today, no earlier than usual. Seemed a little quiet but ate as usual

Said he was sad at about 10:30 and he was tired and he wanted me to put him to bed. So I did.

He's still asleep; completely soundo! That's nearly 2 and a half hours now. Very unusual.

Would you wake him? On one hand I don't want a hellish bedtime but on the other if he's feeling under the weather I don't want to make him feel worse. I'm inclined to leave him but DP thinks I should wake him. At least ti see if he's okay
(He's breathing and not got a temp from what I can tell so he's okay)

I would prob wake him, just wouldn't want to deal the bedtime!

febbabies2023 · 29/08/2023 14:56

I did wake him, although he's telling me he's still tired, and he's refusing to eat anything which is very unlike him!

No temp, talking as normal but just wants to watch tv. Again unlike him

Says his back hurts too although I'm not convinced. I've had sciatica and mentioned my back to him several times so not sure if he's just copying me

I'd probably have left him as sounds like he's got something brewing! Whenever DD1 falls asleep during day it's usually cos she's got a bug incoming so I assume she needs the rest. Hopefully he'll feel better soon!

@Clefable he does doesn't he. I was also more inclined to leave him but he's up now so if he is feeling unwell bedtime shouldn't be a battle still

Poor thing doesn't know what he wants

Yes it sounds like something is coming, has he had chicken pox mine was incredibly tired and body aches before the spots appeared

febbabies2023 · 29/08/2023 15:21

@Quartz2208 yeah he had them in Feb this year so I don't think it's that

He's very clingy and cuddly so something is defo up but hard to give him all the attention when I have a 6m old too 😬

I'd just let him sit quietly on the sofa, watch TV and try to get liquid into him in whatever form he fancies. It does sound like he's coming down with something. Good luck for tomorrow!

febbabies2023 · 29/08/2023 15:54

Yeah he's definitely not feeling himself

He's saying his back hurts but is pointing to his side. He seems to have quite a quick heart rate (but I can't count them cause I'm shit at it) but his breathing is quite slow and he's making little noises with his breathing so I'm actually wondering if he's feeling really poorly but just can't tell me exactly what's wrong yet.

I'll keep a close eye on him and go from there I guess!

I have an interview tomorrow which is not ideal! Thankfully MIL will have him for me if need be (he's meant to be at nursery but we'll see)

Thank you all I hope he perks up soon 😭

Now he's asked to go back to bed again and I'm so worried about him

He's saying the lights are too bright
I'm fully aware that some of these symptoms could be meningitis or other serious things.

Not sure whether to let him sleep and stay with him, or whether to take him up the hospital to be checked over.

God having kids is stressful!

I'd call the GP and see if they can see him this afternoon, or get an out of ours GP appointment if not via 111.

Cowlover89 · 29/08/2023 16:24

Definitely get him checked x

febbabies2023 · 29/08/2023 16:24

@boomtickhouse our Gp won't see him today, they're useless. I'm going to wait for my partner to get home so he can take the baby and I'll call 111. His heart rate is 150 which seems high too?

111 will tell you to take him to A&E/minors/whatever your hospital set up is for kids. With under 5’s they always say that so I’d save the wait for the phonecall and take him in now.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 29/08/2023 16:33

His heart rate slightly higher than usual but with those other signs I would want to get him seen sooner rather than later. I hope all is OK.

Chanhedforthis · 29/08/2023 16:57

Please get him seen to op. My friends 8 week old baby had similar symptoms and she had meningitis.

She's fine now but please be quick.

febbabies2023 · 29/08/2023 17:15

He seems to have really perked up a bit!

He's just eaten, had something to drink too. He's now sat up watching tv and seems more alert than he was. I'll keep an eye on him and keep checking with his breathing and heart rate

I've had a read of the things I'm looking for should he deteriorate and thankfully we're close to a hospital should I need to take him

But for now I think it's manageable at home 🤞🏼

I'll add I have nurofen at 4:15 so maybe that's helped

OP posts:
Worriedcatmum · 29/08/2023 17:24

Please take him to the hospital now OP. The nurofen may be masking his symptoms. A lot of the things you have said are red flags and no hospital will think you are overreacting with those symptoms in a child that age. Please don’t wait any longer or “see how he goes”. I’m worried and I don’t even know you or him.

febbabies2023 · 29/08/2023 17:44

@Worriedcatmum he's literally running around the place hop skip and jumping as he's saying - surely if he was really poorly he wouldn't be doing that even with nurfoen?

OP posts:
febbabies2023 · 29/08/2023 17:45

Not necessarily. We've had them arrange for a Dr to call us within the next 2 hours.

Oh yes we have waited for a dr call back, sometimes for up to 8hrs, but 100% of the time we have ended up in a&e after that call.
We are on number 9 now in just under 4 years. We just go to a&e now as it is an hour away as it is.

The worst bit was the under 3 ambulance protocol. We have had 4 111 sent ambulances as any sort of breathing issue mandates one and DD is chest infection prone (likely asthmatic but too young to diagnose).

They do their best but the script is understandably risk adverse. The A&E consultant has told us not to bother with it.

PickUpTheDogAndBone · 29/08/2023 20:02

OP, keep an eye out for a kidney infection if he's saying his back and side hurt
