Sized nappies for more than one child?

Although 'birth to potty' clearly sound the most economical nappies, because they get so much use, are they likely to last for more than one child?

Or, if you think you'll have more than one, is it worth splashing out on the sized nappies in the hope that they'll still be good for the next?

Thanks

the downsize of birth to potty is that are bulky on newborn & young babies. The best birth to potty I ever found was a bumble nippa made by easy peasy. I used them on my heavy wetter toddler first double boosted then took the boosters out and folded them ddown and used as a nappy for my next child from birth (although they were 9lbers). I found motherease very bulky and not absorbant enough for my toddlers.

i think if youre planning to have more than one, then it does seem less of an extravagance to buy sized nappies in the first place.

if you are looking for a BTP nappy that fits a newborn well, then cotton tails are very good. ingenius sizing... v soft and scrumptious.

actually anwering the original OP more accurately provided you don't tumble dry them and wash them mostly at 40 and occasionally at 60 not hotter quality nappies should last for 3 or 4 children.

I know people who have used motherease one size (awful nappies IMO) for more than one child. There were a bit ropey towards the end so it depends on whether you want nice soft fluffy nappies or if you are happy which something a little more threadbare and stiff but which still works well. Nearly all nappies seem to go harder with time - regardless of how soft your water might be. I like the fact that my size 1s weren't used so much as DD outgrew them at 9 months, so when DC3 comes along in May they will be soft for him. I like a soft nappy for a newborn.

I'm not convinced that pocket btps will last as long as a two part nappy, all that pul going through the wash a lot etc. Also the elastic will stretch over time so having used a pocket nappy on a 2.5yo, since it was a newborn, I'd be suprised if it was sprightly enough to snap to fit a newborn again. Poor elastic on a pocket nappy is not good - lots of leaks.

As an aside, some btps don't seem to be anywhere near big enough for a toddler (baby beehinds spring to mind).

In short, I'd go for sized nappies if you can afford it (don't forget to check out financial incentives offered by your local council)

MEOS are pretty good in Bamboo, i find now that my youngest is 2. large Sandys even better.
the bamboo is softer, more absorbent.

cant for the life of me work out how youre sposed to put one on a newborn tho...

you can always do not-quite-sized

eg start with Bimbles for a newborn, then once they outgrow those move on to a btp (eg Bumbles) rather than buying size 1s.

The Bimbles don't get used too hard so will still be soft for the next newborn (and actually if you do go for Bumbles the fleecey inner means even if the cotton is a bit crunchy the bit next to their skin will only be bobbly, not hard)

I found my Coton Tots haven't stood up to 2 children, my size 2 nappies are pretty threadbare (DD used them from 3 months to 2.5 years) and are just a standby for DS2 when I have run out of new nappies, so even using two part nappies isn't a failsafe option. I do think how many nappies you actually have is a big part of this, I had a wide selection but often fell back on the reliability of the Cotton Tots and used the 12 of thoose I had much more frequently than any of my other nappies, maybe if I had rotated 20+ nappies equally then they would have stood up to more that one child IYKWIM

I used meos and wambamboo for my dds and then had a couple of sized each for them. All used from birth to potty.however DD1 started growing out of the meos just before she was 2 but we potty trained a week after her 2nd birthday.
