hi ceri! have just started using pockets myself!i've got bumgenius one size which came with their own microfibre inserts. i also got some microfibre cloths frm the supermarket to use as boosters. i've got fleece liners but sometimes use paper ones instead. don't think it really matters what you put in the pocket. hemp boosters are used a lot. sounds like you could use those pads but they also sound like a picture i saw of some reusable wipes?? hth x

Not a stupid question at all - all the differnt bits are very confusing, esp if bought by someone else as you have no idea what they are.

Anything fleece is generally used as a liner. It repels water and keeps the skin dry. You wouldn't use anything fleece inside a pocket insert. I agree with Leifmum that you have some reusable wipes there. You can get fleece lined booster pads designed to go inside a shaped nappy so they might be those. Either way they make good wipes but poor inserts for pocket nappies.

You can put pretty much anything other than fleece inside your pocket nappies. Anything from face cloths, tea towels, prefolds, microfibre dishcloths or 'proper' inserts. Green Acre Design (GAD) inserts are fab and available in microfibre or hemp. I would avoid hemp if you don't have a tumble drier
and like a soft insert.

i used muslins with fuzzibuns pockets, & perfected a way of folding for fit and absorption. On the odd bad washing day used a bit of old towel

ceri, I've just bought some more pocket nappies and use microfibe inserts in mine, boosted with microfibre cleaning cloths (really cheap from tesco and the like). I fold them so there are three layers and they really help.

I'm pretty sure that nappyzone sells the green acre inserts.

I've also used terry facecloths as an insert when I've been caught out.

Try Used Nappies for 2nd hand bargains

are muslins OK with bigger babies?

BigBadMouse · 01/03/2008 21:10

You can get the GAD inserts in several places. Probably best to just google uk 'Green Acre Designs Inserts' and take your pick. Don't pay any more than £4 each for them though, you should have a choice of suppliers at that price.

here is a list of specific inserts. Avoid the 'Wonderfulls' or anything else contoured as they won't suit your bumgenius. The super bamboo one looks enticing, will take a fair bit longer to dry than the microfibre one though. Microfibre can hold on to urine smells sometimes so a cold prewash or a bit of vinegar in the wash is sometimes needed - thats the only downside to them I can think of.

If you find you need to increase absorbancy for longer use then I would really recommend using supermarket value microfibre dishcloths inside any other insert. One folded into three fits nicely inside a GAD and they are only about 90p for 3. People seem to find them in Asda and Tesco.

X post.

Didn't really take me 5 mins to type that honest - had to attend to DD2s 'scary dream' half way through.

glucose · 01/03/2008 21:17

used muslin in fuzzibuns until potty training with no problems they were large organic cotton ones. dd is a bit on the skinny side
but still pees the same amount
i assume?

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 01/03/2008 22:16

lol glucose, I couldn't imagine the muslins I got in mothercare being up to the job for more than one wee.

i was about to post a thread on what to stuff my new pre loved fuzzi bunz with. was going to try a terry folded up somehow but will try a muslin i think as she is only 11 weeks. terry might be a bit bulky. will a muslin be absorbent enough? what is the best way of folding it. Just keep folding til its the same size as the pocket? Also the hole looks quite big, do the inserts work themselves out in the wash? I know you're supposed to remove it first
