What’s the next step? Potty!

Currently potty training. 2.5 years old. So far, 1 day at home with no bottoms on. Not a single accident 👍🏻 everything in the potty or toilet. Never had to be asked if toilet was needed, always told us when feeling the need to go. Second day at home with pants on. 1 accidental wee when distracted. Knew as soon as it started happening and told me as it was happening. Everything else in the potty. Short 25/30 min walk from the house on this day too.

So much more successful so far that I imagined it going if I’m honest! But it’s just dawned on me - Where do I go from here? 😅 Does the ability to hold it longer just come naturally?
How do I start venturing out of the house?! 😅 We live a 20ish min walk from town (35 if DC is walking) and I don’t drive. Town has 1 public toilet but it’s miles away from the shops. I’ve seen the carry potty’s? Would anyone recommend?
Im assuming it’s a just a case of getting DC to try for a wee right before we leave and then again as soon as we arrive where we’re going?

My carry potty, but also get into the habit of taking little one to the potty before you leave the house!

And cafes. "One babyccino please oh and could you tell me where your loo is?"

Take a look at the Pottette plus- folds up small enough to go in a backpack.

We don't take the potty out with us now though. Potty trained in February, stopped taking travel potty out about 4m later. Although if we'll go a long trip in the car I'll probably stick the potty in the.boot just in case!

Another vote for the carry potty! Even better if you can go to a shop and get DC to choose one themselves. (As long as you're happy for them not to choose the lovely plain sage green one you were hoping for.....)

As a rule we sit on the potty before we leave the house and sit on the carry potty (in the car boot) when we arrive at destination and before we leave destination. It's worked so far, only one car seat wee accident which was my fault for forgetting to sit her on it before we left!

@mummybear247 @Toddler101 @Spottypineapple Thank you! I’ve ordered one 😅 Gone for the character that I know DC would pick 🤣 Im just conscious of the fact it takes us so long to get anywhere because we walk rather than drive so I think it’ll be handy for us.

@MOR19 I did see that one but am I right in saying I’d then have to carry bags off wee along with me? 😅

@Bumblebee112 that's amazing! What a clever little cookie!
I'm currently potty training my 2.5 year old also(boy) and was excepting carnage if I'm honest. Nope, so far so good. Started 6 weeks ago and less than a handful of accidents. We've also been out for an hour and half walk, to the supermarket and car ride (20mins). Although he did use the potty before leaving I had to pull over for him to wee on a grass verge and then as soon as we got to the supermarket I offered him the toilet and he went there too.
He seems to love a big toilet 😂 so I've just purchased the Dreambaby Step Up Potty Trainer. It's to sit on a normal toilet and has a little step with handles. Got it home yesterday and that's all he wanted to use! He's always thought using a potty or toilet is fascinating so have just tried to keep it interesting and give him independence with it, especially as he starts nursery in a couple of weeks.
Well done to your little one, and you!

@firstbabyworries Sounds like your DS is doing amazing 👏🏼 I had seen those steps and they look great but unfortunately our bathroom is TINY and I wouldn’t be able to close the door with them at the loo 😅 DC has been happy using the toilet whenever it takes their fancy for about 6m and is happy now just using a toilet seat and a little step 👏🏼

I think with either option you are carrying wee around! But the bags have absorption pads in so soak it all up, so it ends up being like a bag with a nappy in and you can just get rid when you find an appropriate bin. A few friends had the suitcase type potty but changed over to the potette as found them to be too bulky, could only empty at a toilet and needed washing.

MOR19 · 26/08/2023 08:20

Should also add we just bought the cheaper compatible bags from Amazon and have had no issues.

KatyN · 26/08/2023 08:22

When you find a toilet, you empty the carry potty. It's got a large capacity compared to a small one's bladder.
My daughter curled an enormous poo into hers in Homebase once.

Ohh I was so proud.
