Newborn herpes / cold sore worry

Hi all, my husbands sister kissed our baby on Wednesday and Thursday morning she said that she thinks a cold sore has come up, I have been so full of worry since and I called the doctor straight away for advice they said until any symptoms show we can’t do anything.
today as I’m so hypersensitive I noticed a small spot on her cheek which stands out from the rest, again I called 111 and still awaiting a call back about it but has anyone had experience or knows much about babies skin rashes etc who can offer some
piece of mind please see photos I’m on tenderhooks just waiting for a nurse to call me back and I have also told all the family to never kiss my baby again and have now set boundaries, my family naturally don’t but I think she was so excited to see her it just happened

Can’t comment on the photos but I thought I remember reading somewhere babies have some sort of immunity to cold sores for first few months? So they can catch them but unlikely. I’m not a medical professor so don’t quote me - but I think I did read it. I think 95% of adults have the cold sore virus anyway, so if your Dc did catch one this young it is manageable long term - although I think I also read newborns do need support if they catch them because they’re so small. Hope that helps xxx

I suffered from cold sores from childhood onwards, and that spot doesn't look like the start of one to me. Obviously not a medical professional, and it's just my opinion but thought I'd let you know if it helps calm you at all.

Hope you get a call back soon to put your mind at rest.

That doesn’t look at all unusual- just like normal baby skin. I used to get very anxious about people kissing my baby in case if cold sores so completely understand your anxiety. I did read that if babies do catch one it presents differently- like bad flu and temperature. If the relative had no active sore at the time and didn’t kiss your baby directly on the lips it’ll be absolutely fine.

It looks like it could be the start of baby acne. If you don’t know, this happens to virtually all newborns within the first few weeks of life and is the result of pregnancy hormones leaving their bodies IIRC. So don’t panic if you notice spot over both cheeks.

Gorgeous baby!

This isn’t true unfortunately.

It isn't feu about the active sore, they can still be passed on even if not present.

Op I know how worried you must be but all you can do for now is keep a close eye for any signs of illness in your baby and act fast if they do become unwell. Odds are though that baby will be fine

I think it's bang acne but keep taking baby's temperature to be sure x
