Tips on selling a buggy?

bettynutkins · 22/08/2023 18:31

I've got a lovely, very good condition silver cross buggy but I just don't know how to sell it?

I've tried Facebook in both my hometown and my mum's with no luck. eBay had the same buggy on there (albeit not great condition) that's been on there for months.

Am I missing something? How do people get rid of their buggies?

I'm reluctant to put in the charity as it's in such good condition but if that's the only thing left to me then that's what I will do.

Thank you!

I could have written this post. I've got a lovely silver cross pram. Bargain I thought but not selling. Also have a silver cross pushchair to sell now and haven't put up yet but not optimistic!

Try searching eBay for completed listings. Not sure if FB also has this feature - means you can see what things have actually sold for.

Is it a vintage type silver cross or a modern one? If it's vintage type there will be specialist FB selling groups for them that you might have more luck on. If it's a modern pram try maybe a local baby specific selling group or NCT nearly new sale.

Gumtree. Offer local delivery..
Take good pics for free ad... Clean harness etc!

They are really hard to sell for a decent price. Most people that want one, are buying new for their first baby or it's often one of the items that's gifted by relatives. If it's your second dc you'll already have one.

You may want more for it than people want to pay so you could perhaps look at lowering your price. If not at least you know it's going to a loving home via a charity shop!

BertieBotts · 22/08/2023 18:42

You want to make sure you're not pricing too high.

Remember someone looking second hand is probably not comparing to brand new price unless you have a very desirable popular model like the latest bugaboo, uppababy, etc.

So they are likely comparing a cheap ickle bubba bundle from a discount site to your second hand silver cross. If you're pricing yours at more than brand new cheap, that's not likely to be worth it. By buying second hand the buyer is taking a gamble at condition, no warranty, no customer support etc, the only benefit is the brand quality over the cheaper budget brands.

If you're pricing your buggy at 60% of new price, that's not realistic. You need to look at the cheapest cheap version of whatever yours is brand new and go cheaper than that if you want to sell it.

bettynutkins · 22/08/2023 19:02

Thanks everyone.

I'm confident it isn't priced too high. I bought for £1000 and had it up for £200. It's pretty much immaculate.

I think I'm going to concede defeat. I have seen that silver cross will collect, valet it and donate it to a baby bank on my behalf. So I think I'll do that.

Thanks again!

I've bought 5 secondhand buggies on ebay. Had to replace a broken one, needed a travel buggy, needed a double buggy. Lots of reasons why people will buy secondhand.
Put your postcode or fairly precise location if pickup only. Annoying when the listing just says "London" - going across London is a 3 hour round trip for me.
Consider using a courier for delivery rather than just pickup.
Agree with checking completed listing on eBay for rough price, don't set a reserve price, just start the bidding at a low but realistic price.
Clean the fabrics if removable and replace missing bits if possible. Add in any accessories which go with it and you won't use on a different buggy. Take clear photos of any scratches/damage and describe it in the listing.
Put the buggy brand and model name in the description, lots of photos included folded.
Copy some info from the brand website to describe features.

fact is most people either:
buy a cheaper buggy new
or
buy brand new

did you search for a second hand silver cross?!

I personally rather have a brand new cheaper brand.

lower the price- to under 100

I had a near perfect condition silver cross wave with all the attachments for twins - bought new for £2k by the time you include 2 isofix.

Took me ages to sell and then I sold to someone I knew personally for circa £400 but not the whole pram system and I've been surprised that actually I've had more interest in the pram as individual parts as I think there is more interest in seats on their own than the chassis as lots of people look for spares like seats etc especially if it's the wave and they have a second baby, and second car seats for grandparent cars so I listed the newborn attachments separately, isofix and car seats and all pretty much sold now (taken about 6 months)

If it's the wayfarer - so can't be adapted for twins/2 children - I had one for my first child and ended up donating it and zero interest

Yep it's a single. Which is exactly why I don't need it as ended up buying a double when we had our second.

Thanks for replying 🙂

@bettynutkins

One of my biggest purchase regrets is buying the wayfarer and not future proofing and just getting the Wave first time round! Right up there with the Dyson vacuum

Have you tried this group?

You'll have more luck if you are prepared to post. I've posted buggies in the past, wrapped up in loads of bubble wrap and packing tape.

No I haven't, thanks so much!

Also try Vinted and offer posting, that'll increase your audience. A good thing would be to also look at how much you'd pay for the buggy now if someone was to buy it new. Unfortunately it's irrelevant how much you paid for it originally, as it's about how much the buyer could save. I'd think a third of the price it is now should be sellable. Good luck x
