Birthday Party Ideas for a 1 Year Old??

Heeeeeelp!!

I’m neurotypical so in general organising/hosting parties is not my forte…

It will be DS’s first birthday in November and I want it to be special. I have a large family so it will be up to 15 children and 30 adults coming to see him.

Also the children are mixed in age from newborn to 6 years old. So the older children might expect something more fun where DS basically just likes bashing the table and clapping.

My house definitely doesn’t fit that many people in. What can you do that’s fun for kids but fits loads of adults too so they’re not moaning?

I love him but this is like my worst nightmare 😅

Honestly inviting 45 people to you house to see him will totally leave him totally overwhelmed and liable to spend a large portion of the day in tears.

My honest advice, keep it low key with a cake and just do a relaxed day with you and his dad and maybe a short visit from the grandparents. The more normal it is the more likely he is to actually have a nice day.

Hire a,room in a pub with a soft play area.
Unless you have. Massive house

I would just take baby to the park or swimming or something you enjoy. Buy a cupcake and a balloon. Job done. Save the parties for a few years.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting a party to celebrate your baby being one year. Some people do, some don’t. I did because it was a milestone and a nice chance for family to get together. Hired a small room at local sports club and hired a soft play company to come in and set up, leave for two hours then come back again. Just simple baby soft play though. Bar downstairs so people bought own drinks. I did sandwiches and sausage rolls etc and made a cake. Didn’t decorate. Spent £250 all in. Had to keep to a fairly tight budget but glad we did do it, was a lovely day.

Had a very low key day on his actual birthday. Definitely won’t do a party for his 2nd in a month, but probably will at age 3.

That’s a good idea I might try that… there are a few local companies that do hired soft play

We had my daughter's first birthday at our home. We had 25 people (spacious rooms downstairs) so it didn't feel crowded. We decided to have a woodland theme as she loves animals and we live in the countryside.

If it's 45 people as you are planning, I would suggest renting out a place. Depending on where you leave, community halls or soft plays are always good.

In terms of snacks, cheese boards, vegetable sticks with hummus, etc work both for adults and bigger children.
I made a big cake for adults, and carrot cupcakes (sugar-free) for the little ones - all babies at ours were around age one--- I didn't give sugar to mine at that age.
The biggest hit was the breadsticks as all the babies were teething 😅

Just have some family and friends around, with cake of course.

I didn't bother with a party at one but at two, the party was very good.
