5 month old still extremely fussy

Hi

i wonder if anyone can help !

My formula fed ( may be relevant )5 month old has always been a fussy baby . I.e frequent crying and needing to be held all the time in the day (settles quite well at night- though currently going through a regression ) . Multiple people have told me he is the most unsettled baby they have come across . Other than being quite gassy , he didn’t have any symptoms of reflux ( no vomiting / not more fussy after feeding / no issues lying down for sleep )at his 8 week check up the doctor said it was colic and it would settle down but it hasn’t … He no longer has issues with trapped wind which I thought was causing all the problems but he still won’t be put down . We have play mats , 2 bouncy type chairs , an upright bouncer but he won’t settle on any of these things for more than 5 minutes at best. I try to stick to wake windows . He snoozes every 2 ish hours so I don’t think he is over tired .

throw looking after a tantrumming toddler into the mix, and me and my partner are at our wits end . He screams in the pram and the car . The only time he isn’t fussing is when he is asleep or in the sling but it’s getting pretty tedious carrying him around all day . I just want to be able to put him down for some time In the day so I can play with my daughter or have a conversation with my partner without one of us desperately bouncing around with the baby.

i don’t get the impression he is in pain as he is happy as Larry being carried about . Has anyone been In this situation ? Am I missing something ? Does it get better ?

help please !

Yes, it absolutely does get better. Raising a child can make people forget long term, since a child - especially baby- is always short term. Remember, 5 months is not even a year old. It can be difficult to tell sometimes, as your baby is incredibly young. I used to be a fussy eater, until I hit puberty and promptly began hoovering up every bit of food I could find. You have that to look forward to, in the very least.

DS was miserable as a little baby. I don’t think there was anything wrong with him - he just hated being a baby. It got better with every milestone ie every step towards independence. He improved on rolling, then sitting, then walking and talking (never crawled). The run up to achieving each milestone was hell on earth I hate to say - the fuss ranked up 10 fold for a few weeks I’m afraid!
