Baby fell back- advice?

Liverpoollass2 · 20/08/2023 17:35

Baby is 5 months and was sitting with a pillow behind them. Unfortunately baby fell back but went to the side hitting their head on a wooden floor. Baby cried immediately and I was able to comfort quickly. Baby has seemed fine since and has fed and napped but just worried there may be sone damage? There appears to be no swelling or bruising I can see. Should I contact 111 or take baby to A and E or wait and see?

I would call 111 and see what they suggest

Happens a LOT at this age. You could go to A&E and just ask if you can sit just in case. But if baby is eating/sleeping/behaving normally it sounds like it is fine. Think how short a distance it is to fall. If not onto something with an edge it's very unlikely to have done anything at all. As baby settled quickly they obviously were startled but not in pain. So if they are settled and acting normally, you don't need to worry.

We have wooden floors and that happened at some point with each of ours. Normally we would try and arrange cushions behind them when they’re still liable to fall back, but they’d manage to fall in exactly the right place to miss them once or twice. If they seem fine I wouldn’t worry.

Funnily enough there was an almost identical post to this earlier in the week, where the OP was cross that social services were involved after being unable to explain to A&E why a baby was propped up and not watched, and how a baby could fall backwards yet come forwards off the sofa onto the floor. The baby had a fractured skull, such was the force they hit their head with.

Sorry, my point was to please get it check if you're worried!

Must have been some force, my DC didn't fall from a sofa, she was sitting on the floor and fell back from that distance, she seems ok but my anxiety is through the roof! I've checked in with a Dr who advised that from what I said she is ok but to keep observing for the next 24 hours for any changes

Sorry just seeing this, yes baby was absolutely fine but if you have any worries speak to your GP and get baby checked over
