1 year Dc autumn / winter wardrobe experience

Morning! I have a Dc turning one in Nov. Not yet walking but I assume she may start over autumn / winter.

I started looking at coats etc for her - not to buy yet just getting an idea.

I am confused!!

In your experience what is best for a one year old:

  • thick Pramsuit for cold days? Plus a waterproof jacket/dungarees for warmer wetter days?
  • short length thick coat for cold days? But then will her legs be cold in pram? Plus waterproof outfit for Warner wetter days?

We are in London but Dc will be in pram to and from nursery plus on my days off we do the pram a lot. Not much driving. Pram is silvercross with footmuff that I assume is warm ish.

Are Pramsuits a pain to get on a one year old at nursery pick up?

I want her to be warm. I am happy to spend the money on the right options obviously but I just hate getting bits that aren’t quite right and end up not being used so really grateful for any advice.

Thank you in advance everyone and have a lovely Saturday .

I didn't bother with a pram suit past being a little baby. Nice warm coat and foot muff will be fine. Plus easy to take off if they get warm.

Some sort of waterproof suit or trousers are handy if you're out in the wet and they're splashing through puddles.

Coat and foot muff should be fine given what you described.

You could also consider a 3 in 1 puddlesuit (one you can remove the lining of) for if/when she is wanting to toddle about in the cold and wet. Just be aware that you don't want one that zips down to the ankle if you do get a puddle suit, you want one where the zip only goes as far as the crotch. Otherwise they'll end up with a wet leg on the side where the zip is because by definition the zip isn't waterproof. I learnt that the hard way 😅

If the child uses a car seat often I wouldn't bother with a snowsuit but if you walk mostly then yes I'd invest in one.

Thanks everyone. And @Curiosity101 useful tip on the puddle suit 😀

Warm coat and footmuff for everyday travel.

I found the waterproof trouser dungarees (whatever you call them) combined with warm coat the most workable rainwear option.
A) they last longer (shoulder straps are adjustable as they grow - they grow out of the body on all-in-ones quickly)
B) I could keep her in them in the car seat (unbuckled and out of the way of the straps)
C) We could go into a cafe (or somewhere else warm) and she'd just have to slip off her jacket as opposed to having to take shoes off to then get a whole pramsuit off

I really recommend getting a puffa style jacket, or any jacket with slippery fabric lined arm sleeves. Trying to thread a toddlers arms through a fluffy lining is a 'mare you don't need.....

My two lived in Jojo Snowsuits at that age and older. Ideal for being in the buggy and still great for walking around in. We had a few different versions, absolutely loved the fleece ones with the two zips. Dd was a dinky one and had one when that still fit when she was 4! Kept her so cosy on a winter break at Centerparcs one year.

I absolutely detested snowsuits with a passion. There is nothing quick or comfortable about them IMO.

A coat, footmuff and a spare blanket or two for under the footmuff was absolutely fine with my two.

Ooo I didn’t know the waterproof dungarees had adjustable shoulder straps! That’s good.

My dd is also teeny for her age. I expect I’ll end up getting her a snowsuit in quite a small size this winter 😀
