Cradle cap help

My lo currently has cradle cap and I think the brushing of the flakes after treatment is causing more skun irritation. Does anyone have any advice on how to remove the flakes without brushing?
Thank you

I use coconut oil, put it on for an hour or so then gently brush and it all comes off. It comes back eventually but I only have to it every couple of months and no irritation in between. I also make sure I get DS's hair cut regularly as it's very thick and when it gets long his scalp gets sweatier which makes the cradle cap come back!

Dr prescribed Nizorel for DN, but he was covered in it.
I used Lanisoh nipple cream. It was amazing. It never came back.

We used Dentinox on our LO who had very thick cradle cap. It cleared it up within a week and we just use it every couple of weeks now if he gets any scaley bits.

Bodyshops camomile butter is amazing for this! My little one started to get it and I applied it one night and brushed softly & it went away!

For ages, my DD had a few patches of cradle cap. I didn't do much with it other than conditioner and trying to brush out the flakes.

Finally decided to buy Dentinox and it got rid of it within a few washes. I felt quite bad that I should have done it earlier (she was 2 by this point).

Almond oil or olive oil.

TheHopefulMum · 17/08/2023 19:02

Our DD had quite a lot of cradle cap, I tried dentinox, oil, coconut oil soft brushes, nothing worked. It did slowly get better over time but what really cleared it was a week in the sun. We went on holiday and I don't know if it was the sun or the pool / salt water but it's completely gone!

Olive oil or coconut oil here too.

We inadvertently got rid of cradle cap when we used Hedrin to treat head lice

With both of mine I would put coconut oil on their heads and then take them out for a walk at nap time in the stretchy sling so it had time to sink in and they could get a bit warm in the sling which helped it sink in more. Then I would very gently go through their scalp with a fine tooth comb to lift it all up. Would take 2 or 3 goes to get a whole head of it off, so I would just do a patch and then do it again another day.

Sorry for my ignorance here. Mum of two and have never ever done anything about cradle crap aside from coconut oil during baby massage. Why does it need treating?

calorcalorcalor · 17/08/2023 20:19

We used Dentinox for a very bad case, only 2 applications needed and it completely cleared up!

HelpMeUnpickThis · 17/08/2023 20:29

@Flittingaboutagain it doesn’t need treating but depending on the severity it can look unsightly and / or cause hair loss / bald patches.
