Potty train!

Hi everyone. I've just started potty training my nearly 3 year old daughter.

Since age 2 she tells us when she's doing a poo or wee in her nappy but wasn't ready to go without it. When I tried she got v upset so I decided to wait.

Since the weekend she's been weeing in the toilet - no accidents at all. My problem is she's withholding her poo.

She normally poo's twice a day but isn't going at all. She keeps saying she wants to poo but when we put her on the toilet she doesn't.

Should I allow her to poo in her nappy or should I persist? Thanks!

Persist! She will get it eventually. It's always harder with poo. They freak out at the feeling because they're used to it being against their skin instead of disappearing Envy

Ok fab thanks! That's what I thought but then I read this article and freaked out

I'm looking for some advice. My 4 year old DD who was potty trained has started have poo accidents daily sometimes time soiling or staining more than once a day. I've tried talking and encouraging but nothing is working. Do I need to phone the doctor. Could this be something physical or is it regression. any advice welcome

We had this with my daughter she has food allergies and toddler diarrhoea so often has loose stools and we think she doesn't always get enough notice.
Our paediatrician flippantly said just to put her in a nappy.
We had a day where she was sat on the potty and started to poo and she stood up and screamed that she didn't want to poo on the potty. We were about to do a school tour so did put her in the nappy whilst we went and she did use it.
After this we brought in reward chart. We have colourful pom poms in her craft box and we have taken 10 of them and she has a glass jar and she gets a pom pom for every poo on the potty with a small reward for 5 and a bigger reward for 10. It has taken her from every poo being an accident to maybe one accident every other week. They had tried stickers at nursery before which didn't make much difference but the pom pom are very visual and 10 just fit in the jar. She likes picking out a different colour and then she counts them all.

Thank you for your response. It's a comfort to know others have had similar issues. I think your right I need to go back to basics with her. She sounds similar to your little one. She doesn't like to poo and won't go. I think sometimes she holds it for so long that eventually she doesn't have a choice. Good advice re the rewards jar. I'll try that
