Does this sound normal for a newborn?

My baby will be 10 weeks this week and she’s always been quite unsettled, but I don’t really know anyone with babies so I don’t have a clue what’s ‘normal’.
The main issue is that she cries a lot, she hates lying on her back (even if being held) and you have to constantly be moving about with her/distracting her with different things or she just cries. Usually you need to be holding her upright and showing her things but sometimes she will lie down on a changing mat for a few minutes without crying if she’s being distracted.

She’s FF and we’ve tried dr brown’s bottles, infacol, baby gaviscon & reflux formula as HV thought it may be silent reflux. Nothing really made a difference.

Sleep is fine during the night, and has massively improved, but she now doesn’t really sleep during the day - from the hours of about 10am-7pm she only sleeps for about 1.5 hrs in short naps and her wake windows are far longer than recommended for her age. She was exactly the same when she used to nap for longer though, I just have to deal with her grumpiness for longer now.

The main issue I have is she just seems very unhappy, it’s hard to take her anywhere as she cries a lot and needs constant distraction to stop her from crying. I used to think she wouldn’t sleep in her pram but I’ve realised she does eventually, she just cries intermittently for about 30 minutes and eventually falls asleep. Exactly the same applies to the car.

I don’t know if we should be looking into more options or just wait it out for it to get easier? I’m finding it stressful to think she’s in pain and there’s a solution out there. She’s also had a persistent cough for 3 weeks so I’m going to ring GP about that tomorrow but wondering if it could be related to CMPA. Or if anyone could tell me this sounds normal and improves on its own? 😂

I had a baby like this. She has CMPA. The cough could potentially be from reflux. How’s their skin?

Another vote for cmpa

@SophNx She is 6 months now and she has definitely improved with age and I’d honestly say she was just a ‘normal’ baby now, not particularly easy in many ways but very good in other ways so it sort of evens out 😂

she will happily play on her own now for long stretches of time, she likes rolling round on the floor although she can be a bit grouchy towards the end of the day. I take her to baby classes and I’ve had comments about how ‘chill’ she is. She is by no means a chill baby tbh but she just loves attention and things going on all the time. We never figured out if there was anything medically wrong despite bringing it up a few times, I just sort of figured out that she has a bit of a temper and knows what she wants lol, and she was easily bored but now she’s a bit more mobile she can get what she wants more easily.

Her night sleep is (I think) brilliant for her age, usually sleeps 12 hours a night. She’s started learning to self soothe to sleep at night but doesn’t always work if she’s over/under tired. She no longer hates the pram, and falls asleep straight away if she’s tired but she still absolutely hates the car and I know people disagree with it but we put an iPad in the back and let her watch baby YouTube on there otherwise she will absolutely scream her head off (her not so easy side😂). She also still does cat naps in the day which drives me mad, very rarely do we get a long nap. But the key thing is she’s happier when she’s awake and I can get things done around her so it’s not as bad.

She’s a pretty happy little girl now, definitely has a temper and can go from 0-100 sometimes but she always has a smile for you, she’s very giggly and has a funny personality. The strangest things make her laugh

I should also add that 12 weeks was a big turning point for us with her general grumpiness and then again at 6 months
