Constant reminders aka nagging both of my sons aged 7 & 8! Help

As a mother I get tired of my own voice nagging at them all about doing day to day things like for the kids I have to remind them daily:

Brush your teeth,
Wash your face
Clean your nose
Put cream on your face
Get dressed
Comb your hair

They are 7 and 8!! Like really do I have to remind them about basic things!!!!????

I have done checklists on boards which worked during school days where they would tick off and move to the next thing.

I put sticky labels on the mirror giving step by step instructions which I have had up for 9 months and when I pointed at them the other day it was like they had only just been put up!!!!

One day my 8 year old washed his face and then put cream on without drying his face! All because I never had a label on the mirror.

I am losing the will to live!

Some tips pretty please?????

Surely I shouldn't be reminding them at 8 to do basic things they have been doing every morning and night for the last 8 years!!!

I think this is normal at this age tbh

What cream are they putting on their face by the way?

ManicMum2023 · 14/08/2023 22:52

The face cream is Child's farm moisturiser.

I think I need to go back to the reward checklists and tell them they cannot put the TV on until they have done everything hahahahaha.

I just thought I would give everybody a break from it over the holidays hahaah

I feel your pain. But if you don't - they won't. And trying to introduce any of these things to a teenager who doesn't have the good habits ingrained is like trying to get said teenager to the moon. You are doing the right things now, otherwise your list will be far longer later on "put your used dish in the dishwasher" "lock the door when you come in otherwise we will all be murdered in our beds" "don't just drop your wet towels on the floor" being my "favourite" three of many this week. Hard work, but eventually, all of this parenting does pay off I'd like to think...Good luck xx

Thank you and I suppose it is some solace that everybody else seems to be in the same boat and I am not going completely crazy!!

They had so much motivation today to get ready because they were going to their cousin's house!

Lord give me strength hey!

Okay so I have updated the checklists for the boys.... In different areas of the house so they can deal with everything in the same room haha.

One in the bedroom, one in the bathroom, one by the breakfast bar and I need to do one for school by their school bags.

Day 1 and I only had to call their names and point at the list hahahahahah.
