Tangled/matted hair

Hi both my daughters get extremely matted hair. I’m finding it almost impossible to get the tats out. Does anyone have any suggestions for easy ways without having to cut it? They get big knots in and I’m probably not the best person to try and get them out as I have no idea about hair styling. They wash hair with shampoo and conditioner and then I spray on a leave in conditioner before trying to brush it. It’s driving me crazy and no matter what I do there’s still knots there that’s are impossible to get out. They both have thick hair one has wavy frizzy hair the other has straight thick hair. TIA

My DD's have curly hair. One of them has to have plaits in for bed or her hair gets very knotty. The other one has hers piled on top of her head in a massive scrunchie.

They both sleep in bonnets. If they go on a sleepover or something and forget it then it's a nightmare to deal with the next day. You can get silk or satin pillowcases but my two are too wriggly sleepers to keep their head on a pillow.

Brush it whilst the conditioner is on, then rinse - makes such a difference! Also I know there’s a limit to what any sane person will be willing spend on a kid’s hairbrush but the difference when I brush DD’s hair my (or rather the communal) mason pearson brush versus the tangle teazer is astonishing.

I have this brush. Utterly amazing - it impressed my hairdresser with how easy it detangles. Reasonably priced.

How old are they? Personally, I think children should have shorter hair until they reach an age they can manage it themselves. Otherwise, once you’ve got it sorted and untangled, keep it generally tied up in plaits or the like.

Watching this for me as both my girls have long thick hair which none of us want to cut short but the knots and tears at hair brush time are really getting us all down. We plait for bed and it's still knotty the next day! Just spent the last hr looking at expensive detangle sprays and wondering if £30 is worth it. We do have loads of tangle teaser brushes but find that they don't go through the oldests really thick wavy hair.

My hair gets huge knots in a single day (dry, curly and fine)
I keep my Tangle Teaze in the shower and use it on my hair which I smother in handfuls of conditioner, then rinse.
I have sent for some silk bonnets, following a friend's recommendation.

Same here. I have 3 tangle teaser brushes and their hair is too thick they barely do anything at all.

Try combing it out with the tangle teezer after leaving conditioner on for ten minutes. Then rinse and comb again afterwards.
