How much water do babies need

RebKey · 13/08/2023 21:26

Baby is 7 months (today!), and I am struggling to get her to drink water. It is hard to find information on exactly how much she should be drinking a day now she is eating two meals a day alongside her usual milk amount (FF not BF)

Any guidance welcome, thank you

Just sips of water with food. 6-12 months is more about them learning how to eat. They still get all they need including hydration from their milk.

Agree with pp, offer but don't push.

During the summer time on hot days, I give water in milk bottle before feeding. In this way, my daughter had a few sips before realised it wasn't milk.

My DS wouldn't touch water until he was 11 months old. Keep trying but don't push. As long as they are having their milk it's OK.

He is now 15 months and happily chuggs 2 + big beakers a day. To be fair over summer we did have to add a tiny splash of squash because it was so hot (don't shoot me please mumsnet police) but we just diluted it down and down until it was water again and he didn't even notice

She is hydrating through formula right now. I just gave mine sips between his bites of food to get him used to the taste and the cup, but you really don't have to stress about it right now.

Thank you all for the help, I feel much better now. She takes sips when eating but sometimes I'm not sure exactly how much of it she is actually swallowing but will just keep with it anyway

Sips of water are fine as she will still be drinking milk and that is fluids too.
