18+ nappies/day. Why?

My 3 month old DD is tall and healthy, and I'm not really worried but I'm tired of changing her all the time! She's going through about 18 nappies/day or more, probably half of those between waking up in the morning and noon. I'm using cloth prefolds at home and disposables when we go out.

I really don't want to leave her sitting in her wee, but I'm jealous of all those people who are only going through 8-12 nappies per day.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? I wonder if it might have something to do with my diet, and whether I could stand to give up tea (agh, the horror) dairy and/or wheat. That said, she seems comfortable enough, she's very alert, sleeps well, has good skin, etc etc. I am just feeling a little teeny bit burned out.

why that many??? do you mean poohy nappies or are you just changing her as soon as she has done just a little wee??

and TBH, she shouldn't be even weeing that much either!!!

I never went thro any more than 10per day with any of mine, and that was only the very first couple of weeks too......after that it was more like 6-8!

18.....no wonder you are getting knackered....not least cos of the changing and washing!!!

Mostly wee. And I am "catching" the occasional wee and poo in a bucket when she wakes up in the mornings and from naps.

If you keep on catching, the nappy number will fall.

I felt the same way as you did about my DD siting in a dirty/wet nappy and she felt the same way. We went though 20/30 nappies when she was newborn. We started catching wee's at 10 weeks old and the nappy use fell.

18???????????

There shouldn't be any reason why a nappy won't last 3-4 hours unless the prefolds aren't great (not a huge fan of prefolds tbh). They shouldn't be dripping wet, but WILL feel wet. With a liner, especially a fleece one, your baby's skin will feel dry

Dairy in your diet could affect her wee output, might be worth cutting that out for a few days to see if that helps, reduce the amount of wee.

18's a ridiculous amount of nappies. We never used more than 6-8 a day.
You don't have to change the second they do a drop of wee. As someone else said, use a liner and they won't feel wet when the nappy's not bone dry.

i only use bout 5 or 6 a day with a fleec liner and anyway they still feel wet in a sposie

Just to echo what others have said really.

As long as her bottom isn't wet you shouldn't have to change her. Fleece liners will keep her nice and dry as they wick the moisture away from the skin. If her bottom is wet after a short time then you need to find a more absorbant nappy - either bigger prefolds or something different which you can boost accordingly.

Sounds like you have a heavy wetter on your hands tbh although it might just be a 'phase'. You really shouldn't need that many nappies a day if they are doing the job properly.

My DD is 22 months and uses 4 per day
