Why is my baby not finishing her bottles?

My DD is 4 months old and just recently she hasn't been finishing her bottles. She puts her hands on the bottle and shoves it away, then she will bring the bottle back to her mouth and drink some more and she will keep doing this and will be done when she's had around 100ml (we give her 210ml).
She hasn't always finished every bottle but she always has a good chunk of it and will only leave around 30ml ish maybe less.
Along with this, she is fighting naps every now and again (her night time sleep is great though and she will sleep through until 6/7am) and I also can't put her down for longer than 10 mins before she starts to whine or cry!

Is this all the 4 month regression or is something else going on that I don't know about?

I had exactly this @gothshot
At the time, it made me anxious that she wasn't finishing her bottles and fussed so much - pushing bottle away, turning head and getting angry. It developed into a bottle aversion unfortunately but looking back, I was at fault by putting the pressure on trying to get her to feed.

Thankfully, it was just a phase. She's now weaning and thoroughly enjoys her 3 bottles a day along with food.

Do you have the right sized teats as you need different flow rates for different ages?

I didn't realised this but it solved this problem when my baby moved onto stage 2 teats at 4months.

Thanks for your reply! I do end up wondering if this is just what she's like now so it's good to hear that someone else has experienced this too and it is just a phase.

Could be teething

Freshair1 · 13/08/2023 08:00

Do you eat your meals in one continuous go?

Raggeo · 13/08/2023 08:03

Are they being distracted by what's going on around them? At 4 months my babies were alert and nosey so would stoo feeding so they could watch or do something else. They fed better in quiet rooms.

Ohthatsabitshit · 13/08/2023 08:06

Loosen the bottle lid a little.

welshweasel · 13/08/2023 08:08

It's totally normal. Don't try to force them to finish, you'll cause more issues. Just feed them again when they next seem hungry - you may end up giving smaller more frequent bottles for a bit, which is fine, you should be demand feeding still at this age.

Thanks for your responses.
I have wondered if she could be teething, she is quite clingy atm and doesn't like being put down, she dribbles a lot and everything goes in her mouth but her cheeks aren't red?
I will also try to feed her in a quiet room, she does watch the tv but to be fair she's done that for a while now and it's only the last week or so she's started to not finish her bottles.
I won't force her to finish them either, I do offer her the bottle for a little while after she stops just in case she does want more but more often than not she is done!

It sounds like you're doing all the right things @gothshot

Rest assured this is just a phase and this phase shall pass. Smaller and more frequent feeds as per @welshweasel suggestion is a good idea just until your DD decides she wants a little bit more at each feed.

Your doing a great job mama.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/08/2023 11:46

Teething. She wants the milk but it’s uncomfortable so finds it frustrating. Same with naps. Just that discomfort stopping her from dropping off.
