Is Next baby clothing sizing too small?

I have noticed Next baby clothes seem to fit significantly smaller than other shops. Baby grows definitely come up small, but i noticed it most with rompers.

My DS is not a big baby, he is average sized at 6 months. Size 6-9 rompers barely fit around his legs and is too tight to wear. I find this very odd! & i do not see how an 8/9 month old baby would fit in them.

Anyone else find this?

Yes I found this! My baby is quite big (born on 75th centile and now tracking 80th) but he barely fit in 3-6 rompers at 3 months, and now at just 5 months only just fits in 6-9, but they won’t fit after a couple more weeks. They’re short, and tight round the legs!

M&S on the other hand I find great for sizing, he is still in 3-6 in vests and rompers there. Would be great not to have such a discrepancy between shops!

I used to buy next clothes as one of the few brands wide enough to fit my chubby boy. My skinny boy couldn't wear the brand well as they were always too short y the time the width was right.. I think perhaps you're just too focused on what the size says on the label. Just buy what fits your child.

Yes and it followed my DD all the way through kids sizes to 9-10 years that I had to buy the next size up. At least it was predictable though. I find H&M for instance to have a massive variation in expectations in a size in kids clothes

I find they drown my skinny 2 year old. Up to 12 months was fine but after that I started to struggle.

I find quite the reverse! I find M&S small, and Next MUCH bigger! It's the main brand that is almost true for age for my BIG baby.

Junebuggirl · 13/08/2023 08:01

Yes I found this for baby but not for the older children stuff

Overthebow · 13/08/2023 08:04

I haven’t found this. Next was one of the bigger brands for my dd, along with M&S and H&M. She is very skinny though. I think it’s more down to body type as it seems to be different for all babies, same as nappy brands.

Been years since I was dressing a baby but I used to find Next to be BIG on sizes.
That may have changed now with COLC penny pinching.

I found Next to be bigger sized for my babies/toddlers. M&S and Matalan also. I think it depends on shape of baby too. Both of mine had long backs and short legs so all trousers are big on them, with tops less so. Recently bought a 18-24m dress from Next for average sized 22mo and it is absolutely huge. Also bought a 3-4yo tshirt for a big almost 4 year old and it is also huge. So much so that I wondered of it has been labelled wrongly.

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/08/2023 08:09

I’ve always found Next to be the bigger end of the size

Sugarfree23 · 13/08/2023 08:15

I think Next are more slim and long, where M&S are wider but shorter.

But just buy what suits your child. Babies like adult aren't built the same. Both my kids are short, but one is of more average build than the other.

panko · 13/08/2023 08:17

The opposite! It think it depends on the shape of your baby.

GAP are quite small even on my skinny long child

liveforsummer · 13/08/2023 08:25

Things must have changed as they used to be huge in comparison to the likes of supermarket brands. Dc are 10 and 13. Perhaps they have cut back these days

jumperoozles · 13/08/2023 08:28

Found next to be very short in babygrows for my long baby and then when he grew into a tall narrow waisted toddler they were too wide on the body whilst being short in the leg.
