Is my Grobag dangerous?

Hello ladies. I recently bought a 1 toy lightweight Muslin Grobag from JoJo Maman Bebe, then I saw shortly after that jojomamanbebe’s grobags are labelled dangerous due to suffocation.
Surely they cannot still be selling them if they’re a risk to your baby?
Secondly does any of you ladies use jojomamanbebe grobags, if so, do you find it safe for me to use? I need all the help I can get.. I’ve dropped a pic of the products that was labelled dangerous down below.

Also can any of you ladies let me know if the Grobag looks too big on my daughter if I post a picture here too, I’m so bloody anxious!!šŸ˜“

I've just had a read of the Which report. I don't think it looks too big, I think it fits quite well! Also, as long as you still follow the 'feet to the foot of the cot' rules then she's unlikely to wriggle into the sleeping bag if it DOES happen to be slightly too large?

mumstressoutmum · 11/08/2023 01:27

To be honest I'd be too paranoid and just bin it, you can get decent second hand ones on Vinted for a pound or two each, just hot wash them...it's really not worth the risk, even though it would probably be fine x

Hi @kaseymaria - firstly, don't panic. The Which? report on baby sleeping bags was published in September 2020. Here's what there findings were:

Seven of the failures our testing exposed were serious enough to cause a baby harm or endanger its life. The five remaining safety test failures were caused by a product not meeting the requirements of the BS EN 16781:2018, which is the safety standard for baby sleeping bags.

JoJo Maman Bebe Nautical Lightweight Baby Sleeping Bag
With this JoJo Maman Bebe bag, the neck opening shouldn't have exceeded 39cm as it's suitable for children from six to 18 months - but our tests found that this was too big at 40.6cm.
We also found that three key safety warnings were missing, including warnings about ensuring that the neck and arm openings are securely fastened, to not use if the child can climb out of the cot and to not use in combination with other bedding.

I would imagine that those issues were immediately addressed by JoJo Maman Bebe and that all sleeping bags they have made subsequently adhere to safety guidelines.

Secondly, your daughter is beautiful and her sleeping bag looks the perfect size for her. Whilst not an expert on the matter, I have three children and they all had Grobags as babies, so I'm going by my own experiences as to how it looks on your little one from your photo. I hope that helps to alleviate your anxiety somewhat.

I raised two kids in these JoJoMamanbebe grobags/sleeping bags. Never had a problem. I kept them in them for years... They are 18 and 15 respectively...

I'm sure she'll be absolutely fine in it. JoJo Maman Bebe actually did respond to the Which? report with the following statement:

JoJo Maman BƩbƩ said the bag tested was manufactured under previous standards outlined in 2009 and the failures are all new recommendations from regulations introduced in 2018.
A spokesperson added: "The bag was purchased at a time when our stock was transitioning from one standard to another, which took slightly longer than anticipated."

All of their baby sleeping bags produced since 2020 do conform to the correct safety standards, so the one you bought for your daughter falls into that category.

I know nothing about Grobags, I'm just here to say your DD melted my heart.

nb I am on holiday with my 14 and 24 yo sons. It's wonderful, but seeing a tiny, sleeping baby girl in a rainbow is a little window of sweetness.

kaseymaria · 11/08/2023 06:27

Awww @CharlotteBog Thankyou so much! She is an absolute dream, she has the most gorgeous eyes too x

That makes zero sense. How do you know a secondhand one would be better?

The standard for grobags was only updated in 2018, how would she know what standard a second hand one was made too?

painochocolate · 11/08/2023 07:18

Does your child's head fit through the neck opening. Can they slip down the neck opening?

dementedpixie · 11/08/2023 07:25

It's a different sleeping bag as the one tested was the Nautical one and your dd is in a different one. If her head can't fit through the opening then it's safe for her.

crostini · 11/08/2023 07:31

It's absolutely fine. Please don't worry.

Junebuggirl · 13/08/2023 08:23

It seems fine, the risk is if baby can slide down inside and the bag cover her mouth and nose area
