What age kids stop following you around

Does anyone else's older children still want to be around you constantly? I hear when kids turn into teens / preteens they start wanting to be in their room all the time but mine still want to be where I am constantly. Don't get me wrong its nice but its a bit difficult never getting any time to myself (lone parent) so sometimes I come up to my room for 5 minutes I can guarantee I will be followed up within a couple of minutes! Anyone else's older kids still like this?

What do they follow you for/say?

don’t feel guilty in saying ‘right, I’m going upstairs/bath/garden for an hour to read my book now. Only come for me if it’s an emergency, I’m feeling very tired’.

you have a right for a break and shouldn’t feel guilty for it, especially as their not toddlers so no risk of harm. Children need to learn that even mum/dad has needs and aren’t able to serve others 24/7. It’s healthier for them in the long term.

Mine still does this at 4

Hoe old? My nearly 7 year old has days when she does and says when she doesn't.

They are preteens this was aimed more at older children as I know its typical of young children.

Mine are 8 and 10 and haven’t followed me round for a long time! They used to play together quite a lot but since they got separate rooms a year ago they’re usually hiding in there

Mine are 10 and 13 and literally up my arse everywhere I go

They are 9 11 and 12 and they don’t leave me alone, tbf the 12 year old isn’t as bad but still does it but the other two don’t leave me alone for a second if I go upstairs they come up within 5 minutes to find out where I am

My 8 and 10 year olds are exactly the same. Unless they’re on technology/ watching tv they’re either lying on me or talking at me. I’m exhausted 😁.
But they were both away for a week and I managed to do the tidying I never get time to do when they’re here. DH and I wondered while they were away why it’s so hard to do anything with them around. Then they got back and we remembered! However the house was so empty and sad that for all the chaos, I’m glad of it now

I don’t get time away from them I think that’s what makes it more overwhelming. Glad to hear it’s not just mine though. Was starting to wonder!
