Mat leave with own Ltd company?

I have been TTC for ages (3 rounds of IVF, 2 miscarriages etc). Because getting pregnant wasn't happening, and I was p*ssed off feeling like life was on hold for bloody IVF that didnt work, I left my nice comfy civil servant job with excellent mat leave to take up my dream job that is well paid, but freelance so no perks. I don't regret the decision, but my timing is terrible. I have officially left the civil service, I am 8 weeks pregnant and start my new job in 2 weeks...

I'll be employed through my Ltd company. So no pay or employment track record (yet). Does that mean no mat leave pay? I have scoured the Internet but feel so confused about my options. I assume I'll just have to save like hell so i can take off a few months and then wing working with a baby? Get an au pare?! Any tips on what to do?

And second question. I will have one main client who I will work with full time. When should I/ do I have to tell them? I am paranoid that as I haven't started yet that they will "fire" me and hire someone else to do the 2 year project. So I don't want to tell then too soon in case they do that, but equally don't want to tell them when I'm in labour either. I don't want to leave them in the lurch. Any tips on that front?

Thanks so much for reading :)

Not sure about the timing questions, but as you have been employed until recently you will possibly be able to get maternity allowance. I did the same as you, went self employed just as I got pregnant, and was able to get maternity allowance because of my recent employment history.
