Has anyone had a baby that wouldn't sleep in the pram?

Going slightly insane here

Until my daughter was about two weeks old, she was fine in the pram. Then ever since, she just cannot fall asleep in the pram. She's okay lying there until she wants to sleep or just gets bored of being in the pram, then she screams until I get her out. She just doesn't seem to be soothed by the pram!

She's three months old now and no sign of improvement. I don't think it's reflux as she will lie down perfectly happy for a while until she gets tired or just wants a snuggle. She has no problem lying in her playgym etc or sleeping in her cot at night, so I really don't think it's the angle of being lay down.

The car seat is even worse, don't get me started... 😩

My first baby was totally different, he'd be totally content and chill or sleep no matter what if he was in a moving pram or car 🤷‍♀️

Did anyone else have a baby like this that wouldn't be soothed by the pram, and if so what made it better? Did they just grow out of it and if so, when? It's really getting me down as it's making life tricky in terms of getting my older toddler out and about :(

I've wondered if she'd be happier in the proper pram seat rather than the bassinet, but it's a bugaboo donkey bucket seat so the manual says 6 months plus.

Another vote for sling here. Only way both of my babies would settle 🙄

My daughter screamed in her carry cot, every time, so i didnt go out much because of it. I'll admit i changed it to the proper seat at 3 months (I candy lime) because i couldnt take it anymore, after that she was fine 🤷‍♀️

We moved from bassinet to pram around 3.5months as LO absolutely hated laying flat and would end up crying until I ended up carrying her while pushing around an empty pram! She likes to fall asleep sitting up then can lay pram flat. Also have a massive hood which comes right over and blocks our light. Can get a snoozeshade if the hood doesn't block out light.
She still goes through phases where she refuses pram naps- think it's normal!

I'm really pleased I didn't spend much on a pram because it only got used about three times across two kids 😂 and those times I ended up carrying the baby and pushing the pram. They both hated it. No issues with reflux or anything, they just wanted to be close to me.

They're now 3 and 6 and both sitting half on me while I drink my coffee, so I guess still want to be close to me all the time. Three year Old's favourite sleeping place is on my head as well...

Definitely give your other carrier a go :) my second in particular basically lived in the carrier.

I switched mine to the pushchair seat by 3 months both times, I used it fully reclined at first and padded it out myself with rolled up blankets. Both babies were much happier.

Yep both my babies have hated pram, second marginally better and go in occasionally when asleep and in very early weeks like yours. Both have bee relfuxy but don't think that's the only issue, they just didn't like it for whatever reason. It's very annoying. My baby is now 14 weeks, I've I've changed her to sitting up with an insert. She's tolerating it a bit longer. My first got better around 4.5 months in the sitting up part.

Can you find 2nd hand buggy suitable for sitting up for that age? Then you can sell your pram and sling anyway

yorkshireteaspoonie · 14/08/2023 08:37

Yep mine HATED pram and car seat. He screamed blue murder. I totally regret getting a pram with a bassinet and wish I’d got one with the tilting seats. I got him sat up in the seat at 12 weeks and it was MUCH better. For the car seat, I got a phone holder for the headrest and played the dancing vegetables on YouTube. Instant silence! Turns out he was just bored shitless strapped in there looking at nothing

BMrs · 14/08/2023 08:58

Yes, my second DC. He wouldn't sleep without being held until he was 8 months old!

I used the sling a lot and I had a rocking chair in his room and fed and let him sleep on me while I read a book and needed to get up to have a wee. Was really challenging as I had a toddler but we made it work. Eventually managed to introduce a dummy and that helped as I BF and he would wake when I unlatched so I used to swap out for a dummy in a ninja move 😂

I have the upperbaby vista and used the car seat newborn insert in the toddler seat to make it more appropriate for a younger baby. Perhaps that's something you could try if you have one.

Tiredmama94 · 02/10/2023 16:12

Omg yes same issue here. Sling is okay but only if you walk in a certain way at a certain pace. God forbid try to stop to get a coffee… cardinal sin 😂😂😂 glad it’s not just me!!

Pram
Car seat
Cot
Bouncy chair thingie
DH

Basically unless the thing he was lying on was me nobody was going to the Land of Nod.

I was the world’s most reluctant co-sleeper. But it was that or die from exhaustion.
