Tantrums occur once a day, on average, with a median duration of three minutes in 18- to 60-month-old children. The most common tantrum duration is 0.5 to 1 minute[4] with normalization of mood and behavior between episodes. Reference: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK544286/
Yeah right. Once a day! Pah. And a median duration of 3mins, codswallop!
Here's what I've had with my 2yo today:
- the "I don't NEED the toilet!" dirty protest tantrum (x2)
- the "I want a snack, no not THAT snack!"
- the "yes I want to bake those flapjacks, yes I want to come to the shop to get more butter, yes I want to walk....NO I DON'T WANT TO GO/WALK/BAKE" - this tantrum I was actually offered support by a random 60yo woman out and about who took pity on me dragging my screaming toddler under one wing and pushing the screaming 3m old in the pram with the other 🥴
- the "it's NOT bedtime!" tantrum
The first couple were about 10-15m each, the third was 30m and the bedtime one was over an hour lashing and thrashing.
I'm exhausted. Anyone else?
