Potty training

My son is 2 years and 5 months and is showing some signs of being "ready". He's taken a real interest in the toilet and asked to pee in it tonight (and he did!!).

I was planning to stay home all weekend (Friday / Saturday / Sunday) to get started but we go to legoland on Tuesday next week and obviously that is a major distraction.

Do you think it's best to wait until after our trip?

No, I’d start now. He’s the right age and hopefully a long weekend should crack it.

Start now, he'll probably get it quite quickly by the sounds of it - get a carry potty for Legoland and make sure you prompt him a lot while you're there. Good luck!

Thanks both. I think it was more the car journey there and back that was concerning me. Maybe I'll just go for it!

Was planning doing 3 days solid of staying home with no bottoms on and hoping for the best....

I'd go for it, we went out on a day trip on our third day of potty training, wasn't ideal but was already booked and was the only few days we had at home. She was 2yo 4mo and didn't want to wear nappies anymore so we went for it. Agree with above, carry potty is brilliant. Might be a controversial view but depending on how long the journey is I'd put on a pull up, my toddler has been potty trained for 8mo but have still put a pull up on for long journeys in case she announces she needs a wee on a motorway when we can't stop, I explain to her why we're putting it on and she's fine with it.

I'd actually considered this re the pull up in the car but didn't know if that was the wrong thing to do.

I've bought a portable / folding toilet seat to take out and about as I was hoping to get to the toilet as much as possible rather than the potty but now wondering with all of the mentions of a portable potty if that was the wrong thing to buy.

It was the toilet he asked to wee on tonight

I'd wait. You're right it's the car journey that's the problem. Pull up sends the wrong message. If these are his first signs you're not going to miss the boat by letting him wee in the loo when he wants at home, but otherwise sticking with nappies so you don't spoil a nice trip.

We used Oh Crap method at exactly the same age and it was brilliant.
