Bumgenius users ...... what am I doing wrong?

I've been using Bumgenius nappies for months now and so far have loved them!

BUT I've been using liners in them to catch the poo as I've just weaned LO but the poo keeps squidging over the top and back of the nappy, I make sure the liner is tucked in all the way around yet its still not working?

I've tried the silky Boots liners (these stick to her floo), the ones on a roll from The Nappy Lady (are a bit stiff) and some from Mothercare and its still coming out.

Here's how I put them in, I tuck them in the pocket opening and the just lay them along the nappy, is this right? Her poo is still really runny so is washing out OK but what about when it goes more solid?

Also do you use them at night with a booster or do they not hold the wee? DD has a habit of pooing in the middle of the night so we are using Huggies super dry, but I feel a fraud because I've got all those lovely nappies sitting there and I'm still using sposies at night!

Help me please girls?

I don't use BG but I have used liners in all different sorts of nappies. I have never tucked them inside the pocket opening on a pocket nappy though, just laid them flat on top of the nappy. Never had the sort of leaks you describe.

Do you have the one size version 2/3??
How old is DD? is she skinny? you need the waist done up fairly tight (not to leave red marks though) and adjust the poppers so the legs are snug. I reckon you don't need a liner really - as the poo becomes more solid, it will come off the fleece inner easily. (I sort of roll it off and drop it into the loo. Until then, squidgy poos will wash off easily.
I use a hemp booster at night with the microfleece insert. DS is 9 months and wees a lot at night, he was wet through without a booster.

Gingerbear · 27/02/2008 21:47

sorry, meant microfibre insert.
Hemp ones are more absorbent than microfleece. (I got them from twinkleontheweb.)

i'm guessing you are using flusable liners?

Much prefer fleece liners personally, I use BG and have never had any kind of poo leak, bit round the legs if dd has gone bit too long.
Don't tuck it in either, just lay on top as suggested earlier.

hth, sorry can't be more help.

Just started using fleece liners with bumgenius. Go to the local market, and get a metre and make your own. £2 for 20 !

Willowwisp · 27/02/2008 21:54

DD is 6 months, weighs 15lb and is very petite! She is on the second poppers on the Bumgenius V2, I will try them a bit tighter around the waist?

I will admit we have no poo leaks without the liners and the nappies do come out lovely and clean on a 60 wash, so maybe I will not bother with the liners and carry on as before. When her poo's get more solid I will just put it in the loo, what a lovely conversation were having on poo!!!

Thanks for the replies!

surely the point of a pocket nappy is that the fleece inner layer is the liner.

...the outer is the 'wrap'... and the stuffing is the absorbency.

i would say that a flushable liner tucked into the opening is effectively creating a channel for runny poo to follow straight out the top of the nappy.

every time ive used flushable liners, the poo gets round it and onto the nappy anyway... so i dont bother. it washes off the fleece no problem.

Gingerbear · 27/02/2008 22:18

I think the disposable liners are wicking the poo out. try lullabye's idea of fleece liners if you dont want your nappies staining. (Line drying on a sunny day bleaches out stains though)

Maveta · 28/02/2008 07:01

gingerbear - which boosters is it that you use? Do you find they fit fine inside the BG without rucking it up between the legs?

Gingerbear · 28/02/2008 17:34

Maveta, Twinkle doesn't sell the ones I have anymore, but they are quite thin and don't cause rucking.

I second getting cheap fleece and making your own. I cut out a rough oval shape and then stuff the pocket with the pad they came with. Then we just lay the liner on top - and we're off . We don't get wee or poo leaks and the liner makes for less staining. And the fleece wicks away the wetness - so much nicer than a paper thing which always seem a bit rough - like old-fashioned loo paper !
