Baby rash (photo included)

This is my second thread since yesterday about my baby boy’s rash/symptoms, I didn’t want to tack this onto the end of the other one because I was hoping for responses from people who are familiar with baby rashes.

The long and short of it is suspected CMPA due to liquid green nappies, but I’m also querying eczema. I would be really grateful for any good guesses on what the rash could be caused by. He also has scaly, red dry patches on his outer elbows.

I would also be grateful for any suggestions on bathing, I’ve never had a skin complaint so not sure how often to wash him, with what and whether to use cream. I’ve just been using the baby Aveeno bubble bath (not applied directly to skin apart from hair) until now, followed by their cream, but it doesn’t seem to be helping.

TIA

Hey my 8 month old boy has CMPA so we've been dairy free for almost 6 months. About 3 weeks ago he got a rash similar to this all over his back, chest, face, backs of knees and ankle creases. GP confirmed it was eczema and prescribed us Cetraban and a steroid to use. They've done bugger all but a mum friend recommended Aveeno Dermexa. We've used it twice a day and it's cleared him up. I'd really recommend it. It's £9 in Boots. I also stopped using stuff in his bath and that helped too.

To add - we think he has a mild contact allergy to tomatoes and it started it all off

Is the rash all over. Just as from photo looks to be under chin which could be milk, dribble, making a sweat type rash. Mine used to get that in folds round neck and sometimes under arms.

We had similar many years ago and it turned out to be our water ( which was slightly hard)

Looks like cmpa rash.

Wash baby in plain water and ask the gp for stuff for the bath.

Stop using fabric softner for a while.

Dd was given stuff for her bath, 3 different creams for her body. She's still allergic now.

Ds used to be covered in a similar rash - I had posts about it myself about 6 months ago.

Was eczema- made worse by dairy. Cetraben and piriton helped massively with it. Still gets it now and again (he's 14 months) but not often

Note - piriton was prescribed. Has to be for under 1.

Is baby itchy with it?

My baby had really bad pink rash/spots all over her face and neck at 3weeks old. Went to doctors and was told it was "baby acne" and was given a cream to put on. It did nothing.
Did a bit of research and I seen that "kokoso organic baby coconut oil" was meant to be good.
Within 2 days it had all cleared up!! Definitely worth a try, I got it on Amazon

Chin and upper chest looks like dribble rash to me. Back more like eczema. Not a doctor.

Thanks all. The rash spread and became very angry looking a couple of nights ago, DS wouldn’t stop clawing at it so I took him to out of hours who prescribed 1% hydrocortisone and Pirotin as he was also congested with slightly swollen eyes.

I wasn’t overly keen to use the hydrocortisone but thought it would be better than an infection and antibiotics so I put it on yesterday and the rash is probably 70% better already. I’ll keep using it until it’s cleared and then try the coconut oil for maintenance, thanks for suggesting.

I’ve been dairy free for 2 weeks now so hoping to see an improvement in the nappies soon. His poo has returned to a normal breastmilk yellow but is still very very runny.

I was terrified of using steroid cream too. Sorry should have said we did use steroid cream when it was really bad - it coveted his whole body at one point.

Don't be afraid. Just use thinly. It really does help.

If it helps DS is now 14 months old and hasn't had a flare up for about 4 months (fingers crossed)

Don't read stuff on the Internet about steroid cream. If its used correctly and as directed by a doctor it really can help so so much.
