Pumping a lot of blood??

I had blocked ducts 2 weeks ago, and a milk bleb (I popped it in the shjower with a sterile needle and then milk drained). Since then breastfeeding from that breast has gone from uncomfortable to absolutely excruciating even with nipple shields. Went to the GP today and prescribed antibiotics which I started this afternoon (Dr thinks I have an infection from the blocked ducts). I have just pumped as I can't currently feed him from that breast, and I pumped a lot of blood. Like 3 oz or so until it eventually turned white. I have never had this before and this is my 2nd breastfeeding journey. Do I need to inform the Dr or is this normal?

No idea, but if it was me and I continued to pump milk going forward I'd assume it was clearing out the gunk from the breast and that it probably wasn't as much as it looked as it would have been diluted.

If I continued to pump bright red blood following a couple of days of antibiotics then I'd go back to the GP, perhaps taking photos for evidence.

I can't feed from it atm as it feels like cutting glass on my nipple so least my pumping I can monitor what's coming out, and good call on the photos. Thank you

It sounds horrendous, have you tried pumping in a hot bath/ shower to see if the warmth helps?

Yes it doesn't seem to do much, I've always had a good supply of milk and my little one (6 months) feeds so often that I probably need to express quite a lot to keep engorgement at bay. It's so painful 😭😩

Ouch oh that sounds so painful! I had awful blocked ducts when feeding my first, did massage, warm baths/ hand expressing, ibuprofen all helped. Also tried lecithin which helped a bit but made awful runny poos for DC so stopped.

The one totally weird thing that really actually worked (I think I read it on here somewhere) was using an electric toothbrush - remove the brush head and place the flat top on boob where the duct is blocked/lumpy then work back and forth along the duct until milk flows. It kind of vibrates the blockage loose??

I hope it gets better soon!
