Double pram - 1.5yo & newborn

Hello, hopefully someone can help me.

I’m looking for a double pram - not side by side - which allows the use of carrycot & pushchair seat at the same time, rather than either only carrycot or 2 seats.

I’m not sure this makes sense but hopefully someone gets it and can recommend something please! I’ve seen a couple

Thank you

Baby Jogger City Select

Great tandem buggy. We bought 2nd hand, washed all the fabrics, looked as good as new, will sell on when we’re finished with it. Lots of pram/seat options also car seat/seat options and seat/seat options.

Definitely not sure by side?

I love our bugaboo donkey. Totally flexible. It is side by side, but only the width of a standard wheelchair so fits thriugh doors. Shops/busses etc v. Easy, our front door a little tricky because corridor is also narrow so hard to get abgle right, but easy out of our back door.

That does look like a great one thank you!

That is the dream pram! I’m just not sure we can justify the spend when our little boy’s travel system will only be 1.5 years old and cost a bomb too 😶 but I do keep going back to have a look at the Donkey 🤣

I have a second hand Donkey because my travel system for my first was all new and expensive. I still use that sometimes and put one of them in the carrier but the Donkey is amazing for day trips or going out at the time of day when I know both of my little ones will want a nap. I have two under two.

We got our donkey on eBay. There are lots on there that are very good quality second hand. Still not cheap, but it is very versatile. You can put it to 1+shopping basket when oldest is bigger. We had ours for twins, but aren't planning on replacing it for singleton due soon (although admittedly we have a really small folding buggy in garage that we got for free and would do for short trips with toddler in future)

We had a Phil and teds.

The seats switch about depending on age so had a bassinet flat lying at the back at the start and a seat clipped on to the front. Then the flat lying back bassinet holder moves forward to be the front seat and the other seat clips on to the back.

It was great. But I got the off road tyres replaced with bmx ones when they were worn. Mine was very much pre loved though.

Thank you, P&T is definitely on my list to consider, they’re lovely

We had a Phil and ted too, although over 11 years ago and it was brilliant

PrimrosesandPears · 04/08/2023 11:53

The side by side ones are loads better than the stacking ones in my experience. I have the baby jogger select one mentioned above. It’s a fab single but I don’t like it as a double. The weight distribution is awful especially with the heavier child at the front, it’s such hard work to get up a kerb etc. So I bought an out n about nipper side by side as well and I love it! We now only use the select when we can get away with a single seat plus a sling for baby or a buggy board for older.

That’s a good point about the weight distribution, thank you. I might find somewhere we can go try out different ones to get a better idea!

Phil and Ted's. I love mine, just about to get it ready to sell as my middle child is 3.5 now and is happy on a buggy board.

The Phil and Ted's prams are lovely and slim which is great if you need public transport. They also steer really well. I'll be sad to see mine go.

Prior to the Phil and ted I did have an egg tandem. It was a lovely compact double and great for when mine were younger but I prefer hour versatile the Phil and Ted's are

grapeshot · 04/08/2023 12:56

We love our Phil & Ted's. We're in London and don't have a car so I wouldn't want a side by side as it would be too awkward on public transport. It's brilliant for days out on my own with the dc and nicer for eldest to sit in than a buggy board. Really comfy seats for both and it's very robust - can be used when eldest is older for long day trips like theme parks. We got ours second hand.

Although when DC2 was younger we didn't use the newborn bit much - she preferred the carrier so I just used that and a single buggy for DC1.

Mountain buggy duet

All. Day. Long

Honestly, I usually struggle to get excited about mundane household items, but this buggy is epic

Yep! I've recommended it so many times. Yes it's a side-by-side but it goes through every single doorway I ever tried and easily on buses.

I had it with one carrycot insert which goes into the lie-flat seat.

Kept its value too. Bought it secondhand for £200 and sold it thirdhand for £150.

Essie274 · 04/08/2023 22:35

I bloody love our out n about nipper double. It's a side-by-side but honestly brilliant. I'm still using it for my 3.5yo and 1yo because it's so convenient and doesn't even feel like a double - it has only a slightly bigger "wheel span" (not a real term lmao sorry) than our old single pram (Ocarro) - so I may as well have the extra seat with me to contain 3yo if they're having a strop or get tired. I don't drive so it's often on buses, trains and trams with me and we've never not fit!

Philosopherstone · 04/08/2023 22:38

I have the icandy orange double and definitely DO NOT recommend that.

Warburtons · 05/08/2023 20:29

Thanks all, your comments have been really helpful. We’re going to go to a shop that has a Donkey, Duet, & Nipper Double (and some others) for us to look at. Leaning toward the Donkey, our current Ocarro is in good nick so hopefully we can get some money selling it on.
Thank you!
