Nappy rash cream

hello. My ds has had some pretty nasty diarrhoea for the past 24 hours that’s has lead to nappy rash. The rash itself doesn’t look that bad but he is screaming every time he poos or when we’re wiping him and it’s breaking my heart seeing him in pain. I’ve been going back and forth wondering if it’s best using metanium as it’s better for treating the rash or bepanthem because he’s is still pooping very frequently so it may be better to have that barrier. Any recommendations on which to use or if there are any other good creams/remedies? Thanks

I always found metanium worked best. Just use cotton wool and plain water to wipe whilst he's sore. Hope he's better soon.

I found metanium and then a layer of vaseline did the job!

A third vote for metanium and agree with just using water and cotton wool. If you have a peri bottle you can use that to squirt water on their bum when changing them aswell.

Meta II um - but super thin layer - don't slather it on - so you can see texture of skin beneath is what I was told. ALSO - be careful - it stains everything

We tend to use some cooled camomile tea with cotton wool for cleaning. It has worked wonders!
Another vote for metanium here. We put it on the sore bits then some no harm bum balm as a barrier on the non nappy rash skin.

Hope he’s on the mend soon.

Once more for the metanium! And like a pp says, a really thin layer so you can see the texture of the skin underneath.

Hope all is better very soon!

I have had a constant supply of Sudocrem in my house for the past 18 years and it’s great for a lot more things than just nappy rash 😁 but when one of mine was really sore and sudocrem didn’t do much, I’d use Bepanthen which works every time 😉

TheGlitterFairy · 03/08/2023 08:34

Traditional Sudocrem here too - lots of it and it should go away

CarolHath · 03/08/2023 08:55

We had this problem last week. Nursery worker suggested small amount of sudocrem mixed in a pot with metanium. Thin layer on the bum.

sometimes I would let it dry then put a layer of Vaseline or bepantham on too. Mine poos at the same time every day so just before that time I would slather a layer of Vaseline on

As others have said cotton wool and warm water only. Dry the area thoroughly afterwards. Plus a daily bath

I changed his nappy every hour or so and changed it when I was going to bed too so he wasn't lying in a wet nappy all night.

Also nappy free time as much as possible.

It's hard work but a couple of days of the above will sort it right out.

Another one for Metanium! Its great!

CarolHath · 03/08/2023 08:55

Ps don't put lots of cream on. Apparently keeps the skin too wet and affects the absorbency of the nappy. Very thin layer only
